The Buffet Car, as a holiday home. (near Waenfawr)

Cut in half, one end turned to form an 'L' shape in 1941.

I am told that the bogies were underneath - and the wheels still turned when it was returned to Porthmadoc in 1987.

Original makers image of 23/25 (10/9) taken at The Ashury Railway Carriage & Iron Co.'s premises in Manchester. The carriage, as yet unlettered, is loaded on a standard gauge transporter presumably for delivery to the North Wales Narrow Gauge Railway.

A 1894 photograph of both Ashbury Corridors in original condition taken at Plas y Nant. Number 25 (9) is nearest the engine. Number 23 (10) is next, and both are in all third configuration.

The missing four inches (and joints) are more obvious when the end frame is laid out in the original 1893 configuration. This is the profile that will be used for the Replica Ashbury No. 25

The 1923 modifications to the end frames of the Buffet Car.

The iron bracket helps to hold the corner together, as the modifiactions have altered the joints at this point.

This piece of timber appears a little past it's best.
However, modern glues will allow the splicing-in of grafts of sound timber for new joints, and the refacing of the sides.

Close up of the repairs carried out to one end of the buffet car.
There are several spliced ends - allowing joints to be made in sound timber - and the nearer corner post has been refaced on one side.

One of the techniques used in the restoration of the components of the Buffet Car was steaming lengths of timber. Normally, this is used to bend timber to shape, but this time we were taking bends out.

Dry fit part way into the repairs of this upright - a false tenon has been fitted, and the outer side will be refaced as the next stage.

This frame upright has replacement tennons and has had at least two sides resurfaced, modern adhesives have allowed these processes, which means a greater amount of original timber has been retained.
