Rustaq fort, built four centuries prior to the dawn of Islam in Oman, is an imposing structure built on three levels, containing separate houses, an armoury, a mosque and four towers. My photo was taken in 1977 - in more recent times, the fort has been renovated. I'm glad I had the chance to see it in its original condition, but renovations were necessary to keep it standing.

We had to get written permission to be allowed to take photos in the National Museum of Oman, Qurm, and this was very generously given. I am still in love with the copper coffee pots of various designs and the long-handled, large copper spoons used to roast the coffee beans : ) So much more character than simply turning on my kettle! Oman and its people have such a huge place in my heart : )

An old tower, an old shelter, mountains and sandy desert. We only very rarely managed to take a trip into the Interior, but I loved it there. With the dreadful heat plus three very young children (the youngest born in that country), it was never an easy thing to do, to travel inland. I remember it like it was yesterday, though.

So, I dug out this silver Koran necklace (they are used to carry verses from the Koran) and photographed it this morning in case it is of any use to her. All my photos taken in Oman between 1972 and 1978 are dreadful quaity and really not much use for anything, other than memories. Ever since then, I have dreamed of one day being able to return there for a short visit - how I would LOVE the chance to take endless digital images over there! However, now that I am back down to earth, I know there is no chance of this ever happening, LOL.

The old jewellery in Oman was very crudely made - but I LOVE it. I'm not a modern jewellery kind of person, but prefer something with so much more character and interest and each piece individually made.
