Chigwell is on an odd little loop at the end of the Central line. We ended up changing at Woodford on our way back.

Outside Chigwell Station. Offering a preview of the next section - we're getting quite hooked even though initially we just intended to dip in and out of the Loop here and there...

This is the first of these I've seen (although we've only done two sections of the walk so maybe we'll encounter more). It looks fairly recent. It begged the question 'how many sections are there in the London Loop'? According to this plaque it's "promoted in 24 sections" and it's also described like this on the tfl webpage. However, David Sharp's London Loop Recreational Path Guide divides it into 15.

This looks quite rural but in fact we were walking beside a busy road, just after crossing the M11.
The last mile or so of this walk is a rather tedious road section. Not long before the fields give way to houses and you have to trudge through suburban Chigwell.

This may not have been closed for long. The London Loop guidebook (2008 revision) says "...Butler's Retreat, a restaurant now, but one that retains a welcome custom of serving honest mugs of tea from a side window." Good job we weren't relying on the tea!
