bishop edington replaced the two norman towers on the facade of the cathedral with this rather lacklustre design in the 1360s, though the big central window is wynford's design from the end of the century

view down the nave, with the vaulting added by william de wynford under the auspices of bishop william wykeham, starting early in the 1390s. most of the nave bosses are just foliage, but figures (some phallic) hide in each bay beside the clerestory wall, and the lower aisle vaults have plenty to amuse us.

paintings on the walls and vaulting of the little tomb-like chapel of the holy sepulchre. prophets in jewish hats and saints appear on the soffit of the arch, with christ and his nativity on the vault and scenes from the passion on the walls, mostly of c.1230.
