Caption at the bottom of the photo: "A Joyous Outing." Date written vertically on the tree in the background: "Aug. 1913."

A photo of twenty-six men and women who have gathered around a picnic blanket covered with food and place settings. See a cropped version of the photo for a better view of the food.

This is a divided-back real photo postcard with no message, address, or postmark on the other side. The Cyko stamp box ("Cyko - Place Postage Stamp Here") printed on the verso indicates a date between 1907 and the 1920s, which matches the August 1913 date written on the front.

Transcription of the message:

Margaret, Alma, Anna, Bert, Leidy, and Melvin, out for their health after the party Mar. 4 to 5th. They seem to think that colds are a good spring opening.

Oh! my taffy is gone. Anna

Alma says Harner's overcoat was awful warm, his mittens also.

We visited water street, altho it was Sat. morning. Anna didn't approve of Bert's proposition. But if she would of had Harner, I believe she would of have walked until daylight. The boys had watch night, & the poor fellows had to make their escape thro the back yard. We might as well have walked to our graves, but of course we didn't take cold did we Anna? If Leidy & Bert would of had overcoats too we would of had been allright.

A Vintage Photos Theme Park photo for the theme of guess what's going on (you know but viewers have to guess).

Photographer Charles H. Venus (1872-1959), of New Berlin, Union County, Pennsylvania, took this picture of twelve men and eight women at a get-together. The photo likely dates to the early twentieth century, and many of the participants are pretending to eat something that they're holding up to their mouths. I think I know what it is. Can you guess what they're eating?

For clues, see cropped versions of the left-hand side and the right-hand side of the photo and the handwritten message that's on the back of the photo.

An amazing double exposure of a man pouring a drink as his doppelgänger holds the glass. I don't have any information about the photographer or the method used to achieve such an effect in pre-Photoshop times.

A Vintage Photos Theme Park photo for the theme of Labor Day (laborers and/or the day).

This man is a bill poster or bill sticker, a worker who posts (or sticks up) advertising bills and posters on walls and other public places.

The long-handled tool he's holding (see a close-up) is a bill poster's hammer. A tool collector's site explained the hammer's function:

"These specialized hammers were used to 'post' handbills and advertising cards well above the normal reach of the user, or potential remover or defacer, making them both easier to see and less subject to vandalism or being posted over. . . . These hammers are cleverly designed with two clips. The upper clip holds the initial tack while the lower clip holds the bill, card, or poster to be tacked on to a pole, wall, or tree."

This man is also holding an advertising sign that says, "Magic Yeast Makes Perfect Bread." At his feet is a satchel containing more copies of the sign (see a close-up).

This is a real photo postcard with a divided back, and the type of Azo stamp box (with four corner triangles pointing up) printed on the other side suggests a date between 1907 and 1918. The name "William Mere" is handwritten on the other side.

This is an undated real photo postcard of a group of Americans and Germans happily enjoying themselves at a beer hall table during the May Fair in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

Handwritten note on the other side: "This was taken in a Beer Hall at the May Fair in Kaiserslautern. The people across the table are unknown Germans. Col. Faw is between me & some unknown German woman. I'm wearing my green Bavarian hat."

Added in another hand: "3rd from right, Arthur Brown."

This is a 1959 snapshot of a dandy young fellow who is dressed in a suit and holding an Easter bunny toy. The table next to him is covered with Easter baskets and a variety of candy confections. This is an undated color photo of a bride and groom cutting into their three-tiered wedding cake. The bride is smiling as she poses for the camera, but the groom seems stoic and isn't paying any attention to the photographer.

A framed print of grapes and other fruit hangs on the cinder-block wall in the background, and curtains with a colorful pattern are visible directly behind the bride. Crepe-paper streamers provide overhead decoration.
