The morning of Friday 30 September 2022 offered an hour of sunlit beauty in Lee on Solent before the clouds rolled in. There had been a heavy dew and widespread and elaborate work by the spiders of Manor Way.

The fifth in a south of England chain when it opened late in 2021, the Coffee Cup at Alver Valley Country Park, Lee on Solent is now an established and popular business. It gained the bold front sign in w/c 21 February 2022.

Lee on Solent is known for its extravagant residential light displays but I am drawn also to more simply decorated houses. Although this picture does not show it well, the lights on these reindeer were twinkling well into a grey morning.

The views from Lee on Solent include many spectacular sunsets but it is not the happiest time of year when our nearest star sets behind Calshot instead of well north of Fawley as during the summer months.

Victory Mural - 21 September 2021

A little over a month after the display of their beach mural, the Lee Art Group completed another piece ahead of the Lee Victory Festival to be held 24-26 September 2021. The High Street location would be part of the parade route during the festival. According to the text, this was designed by Paul Hitchcock (the spelling shown is, I believe, incorrect). The hoarding also features a gold ribbon which commemorates Sophie Fairall from neighbouring Stubbington who sadly passed away on 18 September with a rare cancer at the age of only 10.

As the buzz of the Summer in Lee event died away, it was a good time to photograph the soon to be opened Antep Turkish Kitchen at 100 High Street, Lee on Solent. These premises were formerly occupied by Bens Flavours.

This bit of summery cheer was brought to High Street, Lee on Solent by members of Lee Art Group ahead of the Summer in Lee event to be held on Saturday 14 August 2021.

The hoarding protects a site formerly occupied by a property which was badly damaged in a fire and subsequently demolished. A replacement, sympathetic to the original design, has been proposed.

The NATS Radar Reference Facility (RRF) at Solent Airport (Daedalus) was installed by Raytheon and completed in July 2021. Initially, only the tower, cabins and turning gear were in place. The primary and secondary aerials were added in July 2021.

The RRF is used for training and software testing.

Part of High Street, Lee on Solent was blighted for some years by the empty and steadily decaying former premises of a dry cleaners. Finally, in 2021, scaffolding was erected and the structure, now reported to be unsafe, was demolished in July. This view is taken from roughly the same point of view as my photograph of 24 February 2019.

The Dunning Hangar, once a feature of HMS Daedalus and now a part of the commercial activity around the perimeter of the airfield has been undergoing a refurbishment, notably by the addition of cladding to its formerly very tired looking exterior. You will note that some fencing is still in place. Planting is planned to help make the surrounds more attractive. The building is occupied by Marine Concepts and MonsterCAM, both boat building businesses.

This newly installed sign on Cherque Way, Lee on Solent makes a guest appearance in my album 'The Human Touch' to show what happens when decent people fight back against what is usually depicted in that album.

As an active member of Gosport and Fareham Wombles, I play a small part in keeping our area clean and we have the support of our local councillor, Graham Burgess, as well as encouragement from Gosport Borough Council and Streetscene.

Cherque Way is particularly affected by litter ejected from moving vehicles and the Wombles try to match the energy of the litterers.
