There were three stallholders and a turnover of $30.<br /> <br /> Fifteen minutes from Noosa and about an hour and half from Brisbane, the Eumundi Markets are a treasure trove of original artworks, sculptures, furniture, homewares, fashion and jewellery pieces. <br /> <br /> For the foodie, the market overflows with coffee, chocolate, cakes and local produce including fresh fruit and vegetables, breads, locally made cheeses and yoghurts. Have your palm read, chat to one of the many health and wellbeing practitioners or just sit back relax and enjoy the musical stylings of some of the local talent.<br /> <br /> From simple beginnings, the markets were started in 1979 by two women, Christa Barton and Gail Perry, whose objective was to help the township that had just been dealt an economic blow with the construction of the Eumundi Bypass. The first market boasted three stalls with a modest turnover of $30. Far from entrepreneurs, the two women just wanted to offer the townsfolk a place to sell their goods and produce. <br /> <br /> In 1985, the Eumundi Markets had grown to 97 stalls and attracted approximately 143,000 people that year. At the time of her death she owned over 1,000 historical reference books, including Debrett's and an 1808 dictionary of the House of Lords... <br /> <br /> Georgette Heyer was born in Wimbledon, London, in 1902. She was named after her father, George Heyer.. Her mother, Sylvia Watkins, studied both cello and piano and was one of the top three students in her class at the Royal College of Music.
