Date: Not evident. Unposted. Likely 1921 - 1923

Publisher / Photographer: Unidentified

Notation: "WINNIPEG MOTOR CARS LTD." is ink-stamped on the reverse side of this card. The sign on the left side of the building is not fully-legible, but I can make out "WINNIPEG MOTOR CAR LIMITED / AUTOMOBILE DEAD STORAGE $4.00"

From my (limited) research, I believe that this company operated in Winnipeg from 1921 - 23. Apparently it imported American Hatfield and Davis automobiles and re-branded them as Winnipeg Motor Cars. The company apparently went bankrupt in 1923.

In 1923, one of the owners moved the company to Saskatoon where the failed business was re-established as the Derby Motor Cars Ltd - importing Davis automobiles and re-branding them as Derby Motor Cars.

The Winnipeg Motor Car Company had a great logo with the slogan; "As Good As The Wheat".

Here is an image of their logo. (Click on it to enlarge.)

I have yet to determine the location of the building, but I learned that they had an office and "works" on Marion Street in Norwood, "opposite St Marys Road". I'll have to investigate that further.

I have yet to determine the location of the building, but I learned that they had an office and "works" on Marion Street in Norwood, "opposite St Marys Road". I'll have to investigate that further.
</media:text>

I haven't seen other cards from this publisher & have to wonder if they produced postcards of other churches, schools.

Publisher / Photographer: Lyall Commercial.

Notation: I have had some difficulty finding information on this building/business. The 1911 Henderson Directory has its address as 21-27 Notre Dame Avenue, St. Boniface. No such number exists today. Notre Dame begins at Tache - running east, with house numbers in the 100s.

Checking with Hatheway's map of Winnipeg in 1911, it is evident that Notre Dame originally ran straight through Tache to the river bank - land now repurposed as Parc Joseph Royal.

Given that the odd numbers on Tache are on the north side, it is likely that the St. Boniface Hotel was as well. In fact, I am pretty sure that it sat at the NW corner of Tache & Notre Dame.

Back to the image on the postcard... I believe that the paved street on the right side of the picture was likely Tache and the dirt street on the left would have been Notre Dame.

</media:text>

Notation: Located at 219 Provencher Avenue, the Town Hall was opened in the spring of 1906. To compensate for cost overruns, however, the builder had decided to modify the original plans and forgo the imposing tower in favour of a rather squat little dome.

The public was outraged by the "behive" as it was dubbed, and by 1908 had forced the builder to rebuild the tower in keeping with the original plans.
This was the home of one of St. Boniface's most revered inhabitants - James Emile Pierre Prendergast (1858 - 1945). Among his many contributions to the city and the Province, made personally and professionally, he was the MLA for Provencher from 1892-1896, the MLA for Woodlands from 1892-1896, and the Mayor of St. Boniface from 1893-1896.

During his lifetime, Judge Prendergast had several residences. This photographer, Maurice Lyall, was primarily active from 1911 through 1913. During that period, the address of the Pendergast home was 85 Rue Notre Dame Street in St. Boniface. I am assuming that this house would have been located on an earlier portion of Notre Dame to the west of Tache - likely on the north side of the street.
