Normally our half-hourly service to and from Brighton is provided by three coach Southern Railway trains. To accommodate the extra traffic to the football stadium at Falmer, midway between Lewes and Brighton, additional rolling stock is used. The Gatwick Express company is part of the same, Govia, group and its trains are increasingly seen on Southern routes.

I like the way that this modern steel structure leads into a grassy footpath that eventually leads to the promenade at Seaford and to Seaford Head, the cliff that you can see in the far distance.

A friend of mine refers to this bridge by its railway company number. I thought it was called the Mill Creek railway footbridge. Looking for information about it on the planning application for its replacement, I see that it has the exotic name of the Oyster Pond Footbridge. Some time I shall have find out why it has that name. Anyway, after a number of years being propped up by a wooden trestle it has now been replaced by a shiny, new steel edifice. From the view down the stairs, you can see that it is quite wide. Three mums with buggies could bounce them down side by side. The path beyond, which eventually leads to the beach to the east of Newhaven Harbour, is a narrow earth/mud track, so the bridge could be seen as a bit over-engineered. However there are developments in the pipeline that could mean that greater numbers of tourists and workers will use the path, which is currently mainly for walkers - with and without dogs.

Two new railway sidings may not seem to be too significant to most places but they are signs that Newhaven's port improvements are under way. In neighbouring views the new bridge giving much improved road access to the port can also be seen.
There is now a YouTube video of the first train into these sidings, to collect dredged aggregates that are off-loaded at a nearby quay and transported here on a conveyor belt. They are loaded onto wagons by a bucket loader. www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=29&v=l4i6Rz1ScLM&feature=emb_title
