Saturday 5 September 1992 – It was quite unbelievable that we found former MacKenzie Bus Line number 12, a Flixible Clipper 29 BR 45, in a junk yard in East Chester. It had been bought by MacKenzie on January 11 1946 and served the company for 23/24 years being taken out of service in 1969. The paint scheme was flaking a little after all those years but the fleet name and fleet numbers were quite readable. The coach was not on its own either. Alongside it stood two more Flixibles! Former Acadian Lines 331 and 333 which were new in 1952. They were model 218 B2 52 29 IC models. I hope they all survived to be restored. (Ref: 172-02)

Saturday 5 September 1992 - MacKenzie Bus Line proprietor Doug Parker looks on as two customers deliver a rather large box for shipment on board a forthcoming MacKenzie coach service departure at the office at 210 York Street, Bridgewater. Parcel carriage is a lucrative business for the inter-city coaches. This box would travel on the 1305 service to Halifax. (Ref 171-11)

Saturday 5 September 1992 (approx. 1100) – The owner of MacKenzie Bus Line was Doug Parker who is seen in this photograph outside the company garage at the corner of York Street and Victoria Road in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. Mr Parker was in his 80s at the time and ran the business with his son Darrin. One of the MacKenzie staff does a check on coach 29 working the 0900 Halifax-Yarmouth trip 12, an overall journey which is approx. 220 miles taking 5 hours 55 minutes. (Ref 171-14)

Saturday 5 September 1992 (approx. 1100) – MacKenzie Bus Line coaches parked at the garage in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. Nearest the camera is 32, an MCI MC5C Crusader which was a one off in the fleet new in 1978. Between 1963 and 1976 the MCI Courier Challenger model was purchased as MC4 (#22 in 1964); MC5A (#23-27 one each year 1965-1969); and MC5B (#28 in 1972/#29 in 1973 and 30/31 in 1976). I can’t identify the coach next to 32 but the other three were (right to left) 28, 22 and 24. (Ref 171-20)

Thursday 10 September 1992 (approx. 1100) – MacKenzie Bus Line (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) 33 was the first tri-axle model in the fleet, an MCI MC9 Crusader new in 1982. It was seen on the forecourt of the garage on the corner of Victoria Street (running across the photograph) and York Street (running parallel to the coach). In the background parked outside the company’s office at 210 York Street, was coach number 30, a 1976 MCI MC5B Courier Challenger, working the 0900 Halifax-Yarmouth daily service (trip number 12). Coaches 22-31 (purchased between 1963 and 1976) were Courier Challenger models and commencing with coach number 33 tri-axle coaches were bought. Saturday 5 September 1992 (approx. 1300) – Delivered in 1976, MacKenzie Bus Line (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) 31 was the last MCI MC5B Courier Challenger with this style of bodywork. It was seen outside the company office at 210 York Street in Bridgewater as it worked the 0915 service from Yarmouth to Halifax, a journey of approx. 220 miles taking 6 hours. The mother and child are saying goodbye to the older lady who was outward bound on this service. (Ref 171-23)

Saturday 5 September 1992 – Parcel carriage is a lucrative business for the inter-city coaches. Outside the MacKenzie Bus Line office at 210 York Street, Bridgewater we see coach 31 loading for Halifax when working the 0915 Yarmouth to Halifax service. A rather large box had been brought for shipment on this service and the driver was working out how to get it into the locker. (Ref 171-24)

Thursday 10 September 1992 (around 1455) – Arrival of MacKenzie Bus Line (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) 30 at Yarmouth having worked the daily 0900 Halifax-Yarmouth trip 12. The driver (Chester Fevens) is laden with packages and other items shipped by the company’s parcel delivery service. Parcel carriage is a useful revenue earner for the inter-city coaches. Quite an array of licence plates were carried by this 1976 MCI MC5B Courier Challenger. (Ref 177-07)

Thursday 10 September 1992 (around 1330) – A school bus seen from the front seat of MacKenzie Bus Line (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) coach number 30, a 1976 MCI MC5B Courier Challenger. This was in Crowell as the coach worked the 0900 Halifax-Yarmouth trip 12. The handle in the centre of the dashboard is to operate the entrance door.

The school bus driver is letting our coach pull out from outside the local agency which is out of shot on the left. Unfortunately as we arrived our driver got ‘stitched up’ by a lady driving a car. He approached the intended stop and slowed down on the main road with the intention of swinging across the road to park outside the shop to make the parcel deliveries. He courteously waited for an oncoming car to pass before the manoeuvre . However the lady didn’t continue but pulled in to the spot where the coach was aiming for. Consequently he had to park the coach in the carriageway facing the wrong way. (Ref 178-01)

Thursday 10 September 1992 (around 1245) – MacKenzie Bus Line (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) 30, a 1976 MCI MC5B Courier Challenger, seen during a short lunch stop when working the daily 0900 Halifax-Yarmouth trip 12. Only 15 minutes for lunch was allowed in the schedule from 1245-1300. The local MacKenzie agent for the issue of passenger tickets and handling the parcels carried on the services was Donna’s Kitchen just out of shot on the right. The driver (Chester Fevens) is returning to the coach to collect a few more packages which were destined for Shelburne on this trip. (Ref 176-34)
