Preserved former Doncaster Corporation Transport 188 (388 KDT), the chassis of which is a Leyland Titan PD2/40 that was new in 1963.

The body was built by Charles H. Roe in 1955 and was originally fitted to a Sunbeam trolleybus chassis. When DCT closed its trolleybus system a number of the bodies were transferred to new motorbus chassis. Note the two rivetted strips on the roof above the third upper deck window where the trolley boom supports once were and also the wider upper deck window pillar between the first and second upper deck windows which had contained wiring.

Interestingly, the Sunbeam trolleybus chassis which carried the body was registered EWT 480 (fleet number 395) which itself was a re-build of GO 4071 that had been new to Mexborough & Swinton Traction in April 1943.

..… a bit like a new broom with two new heads and three new handles!!

UDL 454 had been new to West Wight Coaches on the Isle of Wight in August 1960. It was privately owned around this time and carried here it carried lettering for use in the BBC television series ‘Heatbeat’.

In this view the name ‘Merryweather’s Coaches’ was carried on the front and sides, a fictional company name. Beneath the name on the sides were the words ‘Town Street, Ashfordly, North Riding. Tel: 4236’. Ashfordly was the fictional town featured in the programme.

It was parked outside the former Hardwick’s Services garage in Snainton. Hardwick’s was acquired by Wallace Arnold Tours in 1952 and operated a bus service from Scarborough via Snainton to Ebberston. In October 1987 Wallace Arnold sold the Hardwick’s business to East Yorkshire Motor Services and in the following March EYMS closed and sold this garage transferring operations to their own garages at Scarborough and Pickering.

</media:text>
