Date: Not posted or dated, but the caption on the card dates the image as March 30, 1906.

Notation: The card's message was signed by "Brother Walter" and addressed to a Miss M. E. Reeve in Surrey, England. It was, however not posted. In the message, Walter (Reeve) explains; "I put these cards in an envelope because I thought they might not reach England." He goes on the explain the image; "You will see the patrol wagon is full of strikers, I see it full two or three times."

On the far right is the Windsor Hotel at 655 Main Street - now (2018) known as the Manwin Hotel. On the ground floor, there are two large windows with three doorways in between. Both Windows have the "Windsor Hotel" name. On the left window, "Maison Francais" and "Joe Serina[?] Prop [Proprietor]" both appear - on the right window, "Bar Room". The three doorways, left to right, are identified as "Office", "Ladies Entrance" and "Bar". On the centre building the sign reads; "Shiloh [Cough Syrup] Will Cure Your Cough".

Notation: Speaking to a Gimli "old-timer", I was told that this was the typical look of early cottages - high roof to minimise the indoor heat & a wrap-around screened porch to enjoy being outdoors in the shade & without insects.

Notation: There is a long message on the reverse - from Albert to "Dear Annie" Apparently sent from 972 Lipton Avenue:

"Just a card to you tonight before I go to bed it is now about 10 to 8. So if I hurry up I can be in bed by 8. I was down town this a.m. doing some P[???] & I also went into Eatons & got a few cards. This is one of them. Done a Big Streak of carpentering this afternoon. What do you say about going to St Judes Harvest Festival Thursday night. If you would like to go, come up to 972 about 20 to 8. & we will go over there. I intended bringing down some sewing, but that must wait until another time. Au revoir & off to sleep in a few minutes. yours Albert xx" Added was this line: "If you come up, bring your Prayer Book. Rev. Heathcote of All Saints is the Preacher."

Card was sent to Mrs. J. Michell, Salvation Army Hdqts, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Sadly, most of the message has been damaged, but the last piece of it reads; "It must... to hear Capt. McGrath... that string of pearls. That was an unexpected treat, wasn't it? I heard the dear gentleman that lives downstairs in the block singing that very verse when I was drying dishes the other night. From your own little 17 yr. old girl B."

Policemen standing guard to protect this streetcar from damage during the 1906 Streetcar strike. Wonderful outfits on the gents behind them.

Early in Gibson's career - when he had not polished his ability to inscribe his captions very well.

This afternoon at the Exhibition grounds race track Bob Burman and the other star drivers meet in mortal competition in the biggest series of automobile races ever run In Manitoba. The races will start at promptly three o'clock and with the four periods of auto polo that fascinating and dangerous game will make up a continuous afternoon of thrilling sport. The giant 300 horsepower Blitzen Benz, the fastest and most powerful machine In the world will be seen both In competition and in exhibitions against the world's records.

I was thrilled to acquire this card. About ten years ago I saw two real photo postcards of this event. I've been searching for one ever since. At last! (Now to find one of the "Auto Polo" match!)
