Notation: The image appears to have been taken from the north west corner of the bridge, looking across the Assiniboine River, with St. Mary's Academy just visible on the far side. This same image seems to have been used by the Montreal Postcard Co. (My collection number WP2070)

Date: Postal strike unclear but note was written January 25, 1906. Sent to C. W. Duck in Elgin, Illinois.

Notation: Image is of Drewry's brewery on the west side of the Red River (prior to construction of the Redwood Bridge).

Note on front; "This is the Brewery so you see I won't have to go dry Dave".

Notation: This image shows the Eaton's building with the original 5 storeys. Opened in 1905, three additional stories were added by 1910.

Of particular interest: On the reverse side, the message section has been printed with an advertising message for a clothing store in Brussels with the catch phrase (translated from French): "Do you want to be well-dressed at a good price?" Apparently the card could be sent by the store as an advertising piece. This is presumably a secondary use of the card. I am aware of one other Brussels-based company that used cards by this publisher in a similar way.

Posted with an unclear postal strike, the precise date of mailing is unclear, but it is safe to say this card was likely mailed in 1906 or 1907. Published by L. J. De Nobele from Winnipeg, it is possibly the only postcard image of this building.

This is the second location of Manitoba Club meetings. Founded in 1874, the Club met in rented facilities until 1881 when it built this clubhouse at 298 Garry Street - where it stayed for 21 years. The Club built a much larger building on Broadway and relocated in 1905.

Notation: I was quite pleased to find this card as it was previously unknown to me. It is part of what my friend Wintorbos and I have come to call the second series of De Nobele's postcard printings.

This postcard has been used as an advertising card for a business in Belgium. The full reverse side is printed with a promotional message from the P. Daenen-Peters store.

This is the reverse of WP1973 by L.J. De Nobele. It was apparently used as an advertising card by a company in Belgium where, it is believed, De Nobele had his cards printed.

This one could be mailed out to customers - as the address side is blank. I have another De Noble card where the entire back was imprinted with some sort of advertising for the "Sabot D'Or" store in Belgium. It may have been used as a handbill since it could not be addressed/posted.

Notation: Publisher Louis De Nobele, a florist and co-founder of Winnipeg's Belgian Club, was an early Winnipeg-based postcard publisher. Along with some other folks, I've been trying to learn more about Louis & his postcard publishing venture. One of the things we have noticed is that there are differences in the cards with the same number & caption which seem to indicate various print runs. This card, #25, is a good example. This is the fourth version of #25 that I have encountered.
