Reflector of a Giant Würzburg radar preserved at Duxford Airfield. This radar operated on 560 MHz with a power of 8 kW and used pulsed modulation with a pulse width of 2 μs. Estimated range was about 45 nm.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. An Air Traffic Control radar has been constructed at Shiloh for the NASA control tower at the Shuttle Landing Facility. It will be used by NASA and the Eastern Range for surveillance of controlled air space in Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station restricted areas. Shiloh is on the northern end of Merritt Island.

TPN-12 Radar Surveillance Precision Radar Set (8466)

The lighweight AN/TPN-12 radar operates in X-Band (9000-9160 MHz). The operator console includes a PPI scope for surveillance mode and a B-scan scope for precision approach. PRF is 1500 Hz, pulse width is 550 ns (0.55 µs), peak power 150 kW and average power 120 W. It has a range of 40 nm and a range resolution of 300 ft (100 m).

The Swedish Air Force has adopted this radar as Landningsradar PN-67/T.

The antenna of the Signaal LW 08 radar aboard HS Kanaris, F464, a Kortenaer-Standard class frigate.

The JUPITER/LW 08 2D-early warning radar performs long range (260 km on 2 m² RCS target) air surveillance on board medium and heavy-tonnage ships. JUPITER/LW 08 operates in UHF L-Band (NATO D-band, 1–2 GHz). The antenna is mounted on a lightweight hydraulically stabilised platform (roll and pitch).

The synthesiser-driven TWT transmitter provides for a great flexibility over a wideband frequency, with pulse-to-pulse frequency agility. Together with the low sidelobe level of the antenna (with cosecant squared pattern) the radar has a high performance in an electronic countermeasures polluted environment. Good clutter suppression is the result of

* the applications of antenna stabilisation,
* a receiver with a high dynamic range,
* quadrature digital moving target indication processing,
* use of circular polarisation.

Antenna of the AN/SPS-6C radar of preserved destroyer HS Velos D16, (Fletcher Class, ex USS Charrette DD581).

AN/SPS-6C was an air-search radar operating in the L-band on 1249 MHz with a peak pulse power of 750 kW, pulse 4 ms/150 pps and a range of 8-145 nm, depending on size (radar cross section) and altitude of target. (DSC 7006)

A vintage Thomson-CSF "Stentor" radar, preserved at the museum of Hellenic Army Signal Corps in Haidari.

Stentor is a Pulsed-Doppler battlefiled surveillance radar developed in the early 1980s. It operates on X-band (9400-9600 MHz) with an output power of 60 kW. (DSCN0819)

AN/TPN-12 background information

This TPN-12 surveillance / precision radar set was tested at Castle AFB in 1958. It was donated to the Castle Air Museum by the 2035 Communication Squadron on 20 July 1981, in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Air Force Communication Service.
