These three skeletons are 15th century wall paintings in the chapel of Haddon Hall, Derbyshire. They are from the story of the three Kings and the three skeletons: "As you are now, so once were we. As we are now, so you will be."

Arbor Low is the largest henge in the Peak District. All the stones now lie flat, but it is impressive none-the-less with spectacular views.

A view down the valley near Hartington when we went for a long walk.

Zeiss Ikon Nettar. I had forgotten what film was in the camera and was metering for ISO 400 when it was actually ISO 50!

An interesting memorial to several generations of Goodwins erected by Edmund Goodwin. Alice Lomas is interesting in that she died in Sydney in 1858. Seen in Hartington church, Derbyshire.

The title says it all, I think. Haddon Hall is a stately home in Derbyshire, near Bakewell. As the family did not use the hall for the majority of the 18th and 19th centuries it avoided modernisation, and as a result has many early features surviving such as the panelling and painted ceiling in this room.

Hartington, a small village in Derbyshire close to the Staffordshire border, has a highly unusual war memorial. It is very difficult to photograph as the text is on multiple planes. This photo shows the names of those who fell in the First World War lit by the evening sun. The first photo in the sequence shows the whole memorial.

Haddon Hall in Derbyshire is well worth a visit and makes an excellent and interesting contrast to Chatsworth just a few miles away.

This is a panel of stained glass in the long gallery showed the coats of arms of the family that owned it.

The nine maidens stone circle is on Stanton Moor in Derbyshire, not far from Bakewell. There are actually ten stones, not nine. The name comes from a legend that nine maidens were turned to stone for dancing on the sabbath. It is now a scheduled ancient monument.

The tomb of Robert Charles John Manners, Lord Haddon, who died at the age of 11. The effigy was carved by his mother, Violet. The original is in Belvoir Castle. This copy in Italian marble was made for the chapel at Haddon Hall where it still resides.
