The steep ladder in the upper part of the Via Ferrata Brigata Tridentina (Pisciadù via ferrata. Dolomites, Italy). At the top you have to cross the overhanging edge somehow. But it looks worse than it is.

Die steile Leiter im oberen Teil der Via Ferrata Brigata Tridentina (Pisciadù-Klettersteig. Dolomiten, Italien). Oben muss man dann irgendwie über die überhängende Kante. Es sieht aber schlimmer aus, als es ist.

In the upper part of Via Ferrata Brigata Tridentina (Via Ferrata Pisciadù, Dolomites, Italy). There is an emergency exit from which you can hike to the hut without having to climb the difficult parts.

Im oberen Teil der Via Ferrata Brigata Tridentina (Pisciadù-Klettersteig. Dolomiten, Italien). Zuvor gibt es einen Notausstieg, von dem man zur Hütte wandern kann, ohne die schwierigen Stellen klettern zu müssen.

Even if there is a definite valley to be seen down there: At 1,645 metres above sea level Colfosco is the highest village in the holiday region Alta Badia (Dolomites, South Tyrol, Italy) and therefore an ideal place to spend the night to acclimatise for high-altitude hikes. (Taken from the higher, more difficult part of the via ferrata.)

Auch wenn dort unten eindeutig ein Tal zu sehen ist: Auf 1.645 Metern Seehöhe ist Kolfuschg das höchstgelegene Dorf in der Ferienregion Alta Badia (Dolomiten, Südtirol, Italien) und deshalb ein idealer Übernachtungsplatz, um sich für Höhenwanderungen zu akklimatisieren. (Aufgenommen aus dem höheren, schwierigeren Teil des Klettersteigs.)

View down to the access (see PiP) after about 150 climbing meters. In this lower (and easier) part of the via ferrata, it usually progresses slowly due to overcrowding.

Blick hinunter zum Einstieg (siehPiP) nach rund 150 Klettermetern. Hier im unteren (und leichten) Teil des Klettersteigs geht es wegen Überfüllung meist nur langsam voran.

The most famous - and also the most crowded - via ferrata in the Dolomites. It was built in the First World War to supply the soldiers on the Sella massif. From a height difference of 724 metres, you have to climb 530 metres before you reach the Pisciadù hut.

Der berühmteste - und auch überlaufendste - Klettersteig in den Dolomiten. Er wurde im Ersten Weltkrieg zur Versorgung der Soldaten auf dem Sellamassiv angelegt. Von 724 Metern Höhendifferenz sind 530 Meter kletternd zu bewältigen, ehe man die Pisciadù-Hütte erreicht.

The Pisciadù waterfall in the Mittagstal valley below the Pisciadu hut. Normally it is only a trickle in late summer. But because it rained a lot in the Dolomites, it showed itself in full splendour last Wednesday.

Der Pisciadù-Wasserfall im Mittagstal unterhalb der Pisciadu-Hütte. Normalerweise ist er im Spätsommer nur ein Rinnsal. Weil es in den Dolomiten aber reichlich geregnet hat, zeigte er sich am vergangenen Mittwoch in voller Pracht.

The mountain mass left-hand in the background is the Geissler Group with the Sas Rigais (3.025m, at the very left) and the Pizes de Puez (2.913m, in the center of the picture). The red coloured bedrock bar in front of the Geissler Group is the southern edge of the Puez-Group with the prominent Sassongher (2.665m) at the south-eastern end (right-hand underneath the clouds).
Left-hand in the foreground the cliffy descent through the Val Setus - a narrow, shadowy valley, surrounded by vertical rocks. This is our way down. You may choose it as an alternative way up without climbing. An ordinary mountain hiker needs approximately two hours for the 650 meters of altitude.

Meine Frau (und Weggefährtin bei den Bergtouren) an der Kante des Brunecker Turms. (Blick nach Norden).

Das Gebirgsmassiv links im Hintergrund ist die Geisler-Gruppe mit dem Sas Rigais (3.025m, ganz links) und den Pizes de Puez (2.913m, in der Bildmitte). Der davor liegende rötliche Felsriegel ist die Südkante der Puez-Gruppe mit dem markanten Sassongher (2.665m) als südöstlichem Abschluss (ganz rechts unter den Wolken).
Links im Vordergrund geht es steil runter ins Val Setus - einer engen, schattigen, von steilen Felswänden umrahmten Schlucht. Für uns ist das die Abstiegsroute. Man kann sie allerdings auch als alternativen Zustieg ohne Kletterei wählen. Für die 650 Höhenmeter braucht ein durchschnittlicher Bergwanderer rund zwei Stunden.
