Une immense plage de sable blanc de 2.5 km, avec vue sur les îles de Molène et d’Ouessant, et sur la presqu’île de Kermorvan. En PiP : Le phare de Saint-Mathieu et les ruines de l'église abbatiale d'un monastère béndictin du XI et XIIe siècles. Au Moyen-Âge les moines entretenaient un fanal au sommet de l’Abbaye pour guider les marins. Quand la vieille tour de l’abbaye menaça de s’effondrer, la Marine fit bâtir en 1835 un phare à proximité. Il est électrifié en 1932 et télécommandé depuis 2005.

BLANCS SABLONS BEACH. A vast 2.5-km-long white-sand beach offering views of the islands of Molène and Ouessant, as well as the Kermorvan Peninsula. In PiP: the Saint-Mathieu Lighthouse and the ruins of the abbey church from an 11th- and 12th-century Benedictine monastery. In the Middle Ages, the monks maintained a beacon at the top of the abbey to guide sailors. When the abbey’s old tower threatened to collapse, the Navy built a lighthouse nearby in 1835. It was electrified in 1932 and has been remotely controlled since 2005.

STRAND VON BLANCS SABLONS. Ein grosser, 2,5 km langer weisser Sandstrand mit Blick auf die Inseln Molène und Ouessant sowie auf die Halbinsel Kermorvan. Im PiP : Der Leuchtturm von Saint-Mathieu und die Ruinen der Abteikirche eines Benediktinerklosters aus dem 11. und 12. Jh. Im Mittelalter unterhielten die Mönche auf dem Gipfel der Abtei ein Leuchtfeuer, um den Seeleuten den Weg zu weisen. Als der alte Turm der Abtei einzustürzen drohte, liess die Marine 1835 in der Nähe einen Leuchtturm errichten. Dieser wurde 1932 elektrifiziert und wird seit 2005 ferngesteuert.

Le château de Rochefort-en-Terre est un château construit au début du XIIe siècle, mais de ce château médiéval ne subsistaient en 1867 que cinq tours et quelques pans de remparts. Pillé et ruiné à la fin du 18e siècle, le château fut acquis en 1907 par le peintre américain Alfred Klots, qui entreprend de transformer les ruines en un manoir néogothique en réemployant, en partie, les matériaux d'origine.

STRAIGHT OUT OF A FAIRY TALE. Rochefort-en-Terre Castle was built in the early 12th century, but by 1867 all that remained of this medieval castle were five towers and a few sections of ramparts. Plundered and left in ruins at the end of the 18th century, the castle was acquired in 1907 by the American painter Alfred Klots, who set about transforming the ruins into a neo-Gothic manor house, partly reusing the original materials.

WIE DIREKT AUS EINEM MÄRCHEN. Das Schloss von Rochefort-en-Terre wurde zu Beginn des 12. Jh. erbaut, doch von dieser mittelalterlichen Burg waren im Jahr 1867 nur noch fünf Türme und einige Abschnitte der Festungsmauern erhalten. Das Ende des 18. Jh. geplünderte und verwahrloste Schloss wurde 1907 vom amerikanischen Maler Alfred Klots erworben, der sich daran machte, die Ruinen unter teilweiser Wiederverwendung der ursprünglichen Baumaterialien in ein neugotisches Herrenhaus umzugestalten.

Il y a plein de "Plus beaux villages de France", mais pour moi, Rochefort-en-Terre est vraiment l'un des plus beaux. C'est comme un voyage dans le temps, avec ses ruelles pavées, maisons à encorbellement, enseignes stylisées, et partout les fleurs soulignant la pierre - chaque détail est soigné ici.

A LITTLE GEM NESTLED IN THE HEART OF MORBIHAN. There are plenty of ‘Most Beautiful Villages in France’, but for me, Rochefort-en-Terre is truly one of the most beautiful. It’s like stepping back in time, with its cobbled streets, corbelled houses, stylised shop signs, and flowers everywhere setting off the stonework – every detail is carefully tended to here.

EIN KLEINES JUWEL IM HERZEN DES MORBIHAN. Es gibt zwar viele "schönste Dörfer Frankreichs", aber für mich ist Rochefort-en-Terre wirklich eines der schönsten. Mit seinen gepflasterten Gassen, den Erkerhäusern, den stilvollen Nasenschildern und den Blumen, die überall das Mauerwerk hervorheben, ist es wie eine Reise in die Vergangenheit – hier ist jedes Detail sorgfältig gepflegt.

Au fond on voit le Fort National, construit en 1689 par Vauban pour assurer la protection de Saint-Malo. Lorsque le drapeau est hissé, le site est libre pour la visite qui se fait en fonction des marées (accès à marée basse uniquement).

La cathédrale Saint Pierre d’Aleth (aujourd'hui Saint-Malo) fut fondée au IXe siècle, puis détruite par les envahisseurs normands au Xe siècle, avant d’être reconstruite. Le site d’Aleth n’était toutefois pas sûr et la ville de Saint-Malo avait commencé à se développer sur un site bien plus facile à défendre, situé sur un îlot rocheux dans l’estuaire. En 1146, le siège de l’évêché d’Aleth fut transféré à Saint-Malo. La rivalité avec la nouvelle ville atteignit son paroxysme en 1255, lorsque le mécontentement d’Aleth face aux exigences fiscales de Saint-Malo déboucha sur un conflit armé. Aleth fut vaincue, et ses remparts, sa forteresse et son église furent démantelés en guise de punition. Les ruines de l’ancienne cathédrale sont encore visibles dans le quartier Saint-Servan, qui occupe le territoire de l’ancienne Aleth.

IT USED TO BE A CATHEDRAL. The Cathedral of Saint Pierre in Aleth (now Saint-Malo) was founded in the 9th century, then destroyed by Norman invaders in the 10th century, before being rebuilt. However, the site of Aleth was not secure, and the town of Saint-Malo had begun to develop on a site far easier to defend, situated on a rocky islet in the estuary. In 1146, the seat of the Bishopric of Aleth was transferred to Saint-Malo. Rivalry with the new town reached its peak in 1255, when Aleth’s discontent with Saint-Malo’s tax demands led to armed conflict. Aleth was defeated, and its ramparts, fortress and church were dismantled as a punishment. The ruins of the old cathedral can still be seen in the district of Saint-Servan, which occupies the territory of the former Aleth.

EINST WAR ES EINE KATHEDRALE. Die Kathedrale Saint-Pierre von Aleth (heute Saint-Malo) wurde im 9. Jh. gegründet, im 10. Jh. von den normannischen Invasoren zerstört und anschliessend wieder aufgebaut. Der Standort von Aleth war jedoch nicht sicher, und die Stadt Saint-Malo hatte begonnen, sich an einem weitaus leichter zu verteidigenden Ort zu entwickeln, der auf einer felsigen Insel in der Flussmündung lag. Im Jahr 1146 wurde der Sitz des Bistums Aleth nach Saint-Malo verlegt. Die Rivalität mit der neuen Stadt erreichte 1255 ihren Höhepunkt, als die Unzufriedenheit von Aleth angesichts der Steuerforderungen von Saint-Malo zu einem bewaffneten Konflikt führte. Aleth wurde besiegt, und seine Stadtmauern, seine Festung und seine Kirche wurden zur Strafe abgerissen. Die Ruinen der ehemaligen Kathedrale sind noch heute im Stadtviertel Saint-Servan zu sehen, die das Gebiet des ehemaligen Aleth einnimmt.

c'est le "Théâtre du Costume" : à ce coin de rue disparaissent les minutes et les siècles pour plonger dans ce musée hors du temps et de l'habituel. Le musée retrace mille ans d'histoire du costume à travers une partie sur le Moyen Âge (1/7ème de l'échelle humaine) et une partie allant de Louis XII à 1900 (1/3 de l'échelle humaine). Ces personnages sont mis en situation de façon à donner une vie aux diverses scènes.

A PLACE OUTSIDE OF TIME, that is the 'costume theatre': just around this corner, time seems to stand still as you step into this museum, a world apart from the ordinary. A museum tracing thousand years of costume history through a section on the Middle Ages (1/7th of life-size) and a section spanning from Louis XII to 1900 (1/3 of life-size). These figures are posed in such a way as to bring the various scenes to life.

EIN ORT AUSSERHALB DER ZEIT, das ist das "Kostümtheater" : an dieser Strassenecke verschwinden die Minuten und Jahrhunderte, um in dieses Museum einzutauchen, das jenseits von Zeit und Gewohnheit liegt. Das Museum zeichnet tausend Jahre Kostümgeschichte nach, mit einem Bereich zum Mittelalter (im Maßstab 1:7) und einem Bereich von Ludwig XII. bis 1900 (im Maßstab 1:3). Die Figuren sind so in Szene gesetzt, dass sie den verschiedenen Szenen Leben einhauchen.

A striking sign hangs outside every shop, just as in the Middle Ages, when these signs identified every craftsman and guild, serving as an effective way to draw attention to the business and encourage people to pop in.

"HEBT DEN BLICK UND GEHT MIT HOCHGERECKTER NASE", denn Moncontour ist nicht nur ein malerisches mittelalterliches Dorf, sondern auch als das Dorf der historischen Nasenschilder bekannt. An jedem Laden hängt ein bemerkenswertes Schild, so wie im Mittelalter, als diese jeden Handwerker und jede Zunft kennzeichneten, als wirkungsvolles Mittel, um die Aufmerksamkeit auf das Geschäft zu lenken und zum Eintreten anzuregen.

This bar has a lovely terrace at the rear of the building, built partly on the old ramparts. It is surrounded by a fence adorned with small iron statues.

L'EQUILIBRISTE. Ce bar dispose d'une charmante terrasse à l'arrière du bâtiment, construite en partie sur les anciens remparts. Elle est entourée d'une clôture ornée de petites statues en fer.

BALANCEAKT Diese Bar verfügt über eine schöne Terrasse an der Rückseite des Hauses, die teilweise auf den alten Stadtmauern errichtet wurde. Sie ist von einem Zaun umgeben, der mit kleinen Eisenstatuen verziert ist.

J'adore ces ruelles étroites, maisons à pans de bois et en granite ainsi que les remparts médiévaux... A Moncontour on a l'impression de remonter le temps.

IN THE NARROW LANES OF THE OLD VILLAGE. I love its narrow streets, half-timbered and granite houses, and the medieval ramparts... In Moncontour, you feel as though you’ve stepped back in time.

IN DEN GASSEN DER ALTSTADT. Ich liebe diese engen Gassen, die Fachwerk- und Granithäuser sowie die mittelalterlichen Stadtmauern… In Moncontour hat man das Gefühl, in die Vergangenheit zu reisen.

It is ‘guarded’ by Saint Mathurin’s Church. The oldest parts of the church date from the 16th century (the north-west section and the door). The present church is characterised by a spacious interior, with a wider central nave, separated by tall columns topped by broad arches from a south aisle that was added in 1620. The church boasts a series of remarkable stained-glass windows, created between 1520 and 1540.

LE BANC DU BAR est "surveillé" par l'église Saint Mathurin. Les parties les plus anciennes de l'église datent du XVIe siècle (partie nord-ouest et porte). L'église actuelle se caractérise par un intérieur spacieux, avec une nef centrale plus large, séparée par de hautes colonnes surmontées de larges arcades d'une nef latérale sud qui a été ajoutée en 1620. L'église possède une série de vitraux remarquables, réalisés entre 1520 et 1540.

DIE BANK VOR DER BAR wird von der Kirche Saint Mathurin "bewacht". Die ältesten Teile der Kirche stammen aus dem 16. Jh. (Nordwestflügel und Portal). Die heutige Kirche zeichnet sich durch einen geräumigen Innenraum aus, mit einem breiteren Mittelschiff, das durch hohe Säulen, überragt von breiten Arkaden, von einem südlichen Seitenschiff getrennt ist, das 1620 hinzugefügt wurde. Die Kirche besitzt eine Reihe bemerkenswerter Glasfenster, die zwischen 1520 und 1540 entstanden sind.

As you arrive in the village of Moncontour, you are immediately charmed by this picturesque view, with its old houses surrounding the market square. The village holds the ‘Most Beautiful Villages of France’ label - and it’s easy to see why...

LA CLÔTURE QUI A ÉTÉ MISE DE CÔTÉ. Quand on arrive dans le village de Moncontour, on est tout de suite charmé par cette vue pittoresque, avec ses vieilles maisons qui entourent la place du marché. Le village possède le label "Plus beaux villages de France" - et on comprend pourquoi...

DER ABGESTELLTE ZAUN. Wenn man im Dorf Moncontour ankommt, ist man sofort von diesem malerischen Anblick verzaubert, mit den alten Häusern, die den Marktplatz umgeben. Das Dorf trägt das Label "Die schönsten Dörfer Frankreichs" - leicht zu verstehen, warum...

West view of Fougères Fortress (12th–15th centuries). With its 13 towers and covering an area of two hectares, it is one of the largest medieval fortresses in Europe. It was built to protect the border of Brittany.

Vue depuis l'ouest sur la forteresse de Fougères (XIIe-XVe siècles). Avec ses 13 tours et couvrant une superficie de deux hectares, c'est l'une des plus grandes forteresses médiévales d'Europe. Elle devait protéger la frontière de la Bretagne.

Westblick auf die Burg von Fougères (12.–15. Jh.). Mit ihren 13 Türmen und einer Fläche von zwei Hektar ist sie eine der grössten mittelalterlichen Festungen Europas. Sie sollte die Grenze der Bretagne schützen.

Un agriculteur, Henri Chesnais, a réalisé depuis sa retraite en 1992 et jusqu'à son décès en 2016 de nombreuses reproductions miniatures en pierre. Au fil des ans, les constructions se sont succédées pour constituer un ensemble tout à fait remarquable tant par la fidélité et la qualité de la reproduction que par la somme de travail qu’il représente. Sur mon collage on voit le pont du Gard, le château de Chambord, le château-fort de Lassay, le Parlement de Bretagne à Rennes, le château de Châteaugiron, une ferme fortifiée de Lozère, pour ne montrer qu'eux.

ON SUNDAY, WE WERE IN LOURDES;-) A farmer, Henri Chesnais, created numerous miniature reproductions made of stone, between his retirement in 1992 and his death in 2016. Over the years, the constructions followed one another to form a collection that is remarkable both for the fidelity and quality of the reproductions and for the amount of work involved. My collage shows the Pont du Gard, the castle of Chambord, the fortress in Lassay, the Parliament of Brittany in Rennes, the castle in Châteaugiron and a fortified farm in Lozère, to show but a few.

SONNTAG WAREN WIR IN LOURDES ;-) Ein Landwirt, Henri Chesnais, hat seit seiner Pensionierung im Jahr 1992 bis zu seinem Tod 2016 zahlreiche Miniatur-Reproduktionen aus Stein angefertigt. Im Laufe der Jahre entstanden immer mehr Bauwerke, die sowohl durch die Genauigkeit und Qualität der Reproduktionen als auch durch den damit verbundenen Arbeitsaufwand beeindrucken. Auf meiner Collage sind die Pont du Gard, das Schloss Chambord, die Burg Lassay, das Parlament der Bretagne in Rennes, das Schloss Châteaugiron und ein befestigter Bauernhof in Lozère zu sehen, um nur einige zu zeigen.
