Monumental calvaries are not found only in Brittany. This one is situated near the Andaine Forest in Normandy. It was built by the local community in the early 1900s. It is a large complex comprising two grottoes, featuring niches containing statues and a flight of steps leading through a tunnel. It is built on top of an enormous rock.

LE CALVAIRE DE LA BESNARDIERE. Il n'y a pas qu'en Bretagne où l'on trouve des calvaires monumentaux. Celui-ci se trouve près de la Forêt d'Andaine en Normandie. Il a été construit par la population au début des années 1900. C'est un grand ensemble formé de deux grottes dans lequel on admire des niches pourvues de statues et un escalier sous un tunnel. DER KALVARIENBERG DER BESNARDIERE. Nicht nur in der Bretagne findet man monumentale Kalvarienberge. Dieser befindet sich in der Nähe des Waldes von Andaine in der Normandie. Er wurde Anfang des 20. Jh. von der Bevölkerung errichtet. Es handelt sich um eine grosse Anlage, die aus zwei Grotten besteht, in denen man Nischen mit Statuen und eine Treppe unter einem Tunnel sehen kann. Als Sockel dient ein riesiger Felsen.

Sur la rive opposée se trouve l'église Saint-Hilaire. De style néogothique, elle fut construite au XIXe siècle sur l'emplacement de l'ancien château, une forteresse érigée par Guillaume le Conquérant au XIe siècle. En juin 1944 la ville est bombardée et quasiment détruit dans sa totalité. L'église était le symbole de la reconstruction de la ville.

SPRING GREETINGS FROM THE LAKE. On the opposite shore stands the Saint Hilaire church. Built in the 19th century in the Neo-Gothic style, it stands on the site of the former castle, a fortress erected by William the Conqueror in the 11th century. In June 1944, the town was bombed and almost completely destroyed. The church was the symbol of the town's reconstruction.

FRÜHLINGSGRÜSSE VOM SEE. Am gegenüberliegenden Ufer steht die Kirche Saint Hilaire. Sie wurde im 19. Jh. im neugotischen Stil an der Stelle der ehemaligen Burg erbaut, einer Festung, die Wilhelm der Eroberer im 11. Jh. errichten liess. Im Juni 1944 wurde die Stadt bombardiert und fast vollständig zerstört. Die Kirche war das Symbol für den Wiederaufbau der Stadt.

In the park around the lake in Ferté-Macé. It's a pleasant one-hour walk to go around.

As its name suggests, the small town of La Ferrière-aux-Étangs has several ponds that are perfect for a stroll (étang = pond).

DIE BANK AM WEIHER. Wie der Name schon sagt, gibt es in der kleinen Stadt La Ferrière-aux-Étangs mehrere Weiher, die zum Spaziergang einladen (étang = Weiher).

This gallery tomb "La Bertinière" rises to the east, where the burial chamber is located at the end. The gallery is 14.7 m long and approximately 1.45 m wide, with an irregular width. Nine stones form the roof. During the excavation in the 19th century, human bones were discovered in the western chamber, along with a polished stone, two worked flints, and black pottery with raised ridges. A skull fragment and cremated bones were found in the gallery.

UN BONJOUR DES TEMPS PRÉHISTORIQUES. L'allée couverte de la Bertinière s'élève vers l'est, la chambre funéraire se trouvant à son extrémité. La galerie mesure 14,7 m de long et environ 1,45 m de large, avec une largeur irrégulière. Neuf pierres forment le toit. Lors des fouilles au XIXe siècle, des ossements humains ont été découverts dans la chambre ouest, ainsi qu'une pierre polie, deux silex taillés et des fragments de poterie noire à reliefs. Un fragment de crâne et des ossements incinérés ont été mis au jour dans la galerie.

VIELE GRÜSSE AUS DER VORZEIT. Das Galeriegrab der "Bertinière" steigt nach Osten an, wo am Ende die Grabkammer liegt. Die Länge der Galerie beträgt 14,7m, ihre unregelmässige Breite etwa 1,45 m. Neun Steine bilden das Dach. Bei Ausgrabungen im 19. Jh. wurden in der westlichen Kammer menschliche Knochen entdeckt, ein polierter Stein, zwei bearbeitete Silices und schwarze mit Reliefs verzierte Keramikteile. In der Galerie lagen ein Schädelfragment und verbrannte Knochen.

The pavements along the road leading from the small town of Beauvoir to Mont Saint-Michel are dotted with flower-covered benches at regular intervals.

BANC FLEURI. Les trottoirs de la route qui mènent de la petite ville de Beauvoir au Mont Saint-Michel sont agrémentés à intervalles réguliers de bancs fleuris.

BLUMENBANK. Die Gehwege der Strasse, die von der kleinen Stadt Beauvoir zum Mont St. Michel führen, sind in regelmässigen Abständen mit Blumenbänken gesäumt.
