Scorching ! - Max temperature in C forecast for 1600BST Thursday, 25 June 2026. Model run overnight [02H22] on 22nd June 2026. One of five models / scenarios tested, this result was one of the two giving very high temperatures.

I repeat previous warning information --- let's avoid the deaths from cold water shock ---

HADAG-Typ 2030 ist eine Baureihe von bisher drei Hafenfähren der Hamburger Reederei HADAG Seetouristik und Fährdienst AG (HADAG). Es handelt sich um eine weiterentwickelte Nachfolgeserie des Typs 2020. Die Fähren verkehren im Liniendienst im Hamburger Hafen. Gebaut wurden die Schiffe auf der Werft SET Schiffbau- u. Entwicklungsgesellschaft Tangermünde. Sie sind eine Eigenentwicklung der HADAG und wie schon die Vorgänger Typ 2020 und Typ 2000 für den Einmannbetrieb konzipiert, d. h. neben dem Schiffsführer wird kein weiteres Bordpersonal benötigt. Die Schiffe verfügen über einen Plug-in-Hybrid-Antrieb mit zwei Elektromotoren. Diese treiben jeweils einen Voith-Schneider-Propeller an. Energiespeicher sind Akkumulatoren, die nachts aufgeladen werden. Diese werden bei Bedarf durch einen Diesel-Range-Extender aufgeladen. Die Schiffe waren vorbereitet, zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt für eine Energieerzeugung an Bord durch einen Wasserstoffmotor umrüstbar zu sein. Inzwischen wurde erklärt, durch leistungsstärkere Batterien darauf verzichten zu können.
Die Fähre "Neuland" mit der Werbegestaltung von ONE wurde 2024 in Dienst gestellt und hatte am 06. März 2024 Stapellauf.

The UK's Met Office have issued further Yellow warnings for rain, snow / sleet and revised the existing Yellow wind warning with additional details.
This map is the BBC's interpretation of those updates.
I'm in the 50-70mph area ... there have been worse predictions, but no harm in being prepared ---

Patterns in the snow. This is at the shore of a small lake where it meets a stream. The combination of slightly warmer water flowing beneath the ice and the strong winds above has carved these shapes in the overlaying snow.
This was taken about a week after the first photo and from the same place.

The Met Office has issued ice & snow "yellow warning" messages for overnight - and much of the weekend, applicable to most of Northern England & Scotland.
This was what we got - just a dusting, and as the sun came out for a while, the snow around here soon melted. As can be seen, the road was already clear by 08:25 {Although some of the higher ground was still white by late afternoon}.
The birds, however, were soon feeding - almost in a frenzy at times.

The models are now showing an episode of explosive cyclogenesis tomorrow (UKMO model output suggests 26 mb in 18 hours; from 997 mb at 0600hrs down to 971 mb around midnight). as Storm Goretti tracks up the English Channel.
Therefore the UK Met Office has extended the Yellow wind warnings along the South Coast and into SW Wales, and the Scilly Isles / Cornwall Amber Warning for Wind has now been increased to a RED WARNING ...

Seriously, take very great care and be prepared for VERY dangerous conditions.
RED WARNINGS indicate that there is a threat to life.
The Amber & Yellow warnings for ice, rain & snow in the Midlands etc are still in place.

Ice waterfall over the weir in the River South Tyne, underneath the Alston Arches.
It looks like there may be a very thin sprinkling of snow over the top, but I don't think I can see any "pancake ice" twirling around.
