The Moss Vale Post Office is in the southern highlands of NSW. Not only does it feature the old letter box (see also my previous image), but there also is the old telephone box (I'm unsure if it still works) and a coffee shop off to the side. Most of all, there are fences - so Happy Fence Friday, everyone, and have a good weekend.

I recently had the curious experience of revisiting our former rural property, for the first time after many years. Not surprisingly, while some things remained the same, many others had changed.
Rural letterboxes at the main road turnoff and fence in background.

More roadside letterboxes. These are down the valley south of Braidwood. The postman travels only on the major road and properties off on side roads have rather personalised letterboxes grouped where the sideroads enter. I think Pam might enjoy this.

In the late 1860s, this was the area where the Clarke bushranging gang mainly operated, with the tacit support of their friends and relatives. In late 1866, frustrated at their lack of progress, the Special Constables (see previous images) began to arrest many of those people on charges such as receiving stolen property, harbouring criminals, etc.

It's a while since I posted any letterboxes. We found these in Araluen, once a goldfield and now a quiet farming area. I coundn't see any name on the old church. Behind are some of the ranges which surround the valley.

Back in 1861, Nerrigundah was a thriving little gold mining town when thousands of miners, seeking fortunes, arrived in the area. The town had five pubs, three shops, a police station and courthouse, etc. The gold is long gone and only about 25 people now live in the area, following various agricultural pursuits. These old letterboxes were in the centre of the town, I doubt they're even in use now.

In the 1880s The Winkle Market was a two-stalled stable, for Langstone House, with a loft over it. . In 1899 the whole property was purchased by Henry Russell, an oyster merchant, and it eventually became a winkle market.

In 1954, The Winkle Market was converted to a house.

(For those who may not know a Winkle is a small, edible mollusc with a spiral shell. The term "winkle" is sometimes used as a child's euphemism for a penis).

Es gibt kaum etwas langweiligeres als Briefkästen in Deutschland.
Ich habe sogar recherchiert, ob es irgendwo schöne historische Briefkästen gibt.
Im Posttower gibt es eine Briefkastenausstellung, aber die ist nur einmal im Jahr am Tag der offenen Tür zugänglich. Schließlich habe ich mich für dieses Bild entschieden, weil ich die Farbe Blau mag.

im Jahr 2063 wird es garantiert keine Briefkästen mehr geben.
Schon jetzt wird in manchen Bezirken Berlins die Post nur noch jeden 2. oder 3. Tag zugestellt.
Das liegt z.T. an fehlenden Postzustellern (seit die Deutsche Post privatisiert wurde, sind die dortigen Arbeits- und Verdienstverhältnisse nicht mehr attraktiv), hauptsächlich aber am grundsätzlich veränderten Alltagsverhalten. Kommunikation findet schon seit etlichen Jahren überwiegend "papierlos" online statt. Wer schreibt heute schon noch persönliche Briefe, oder Ansichtskarten aus dem Urlaub ?
