Once in a while I try something a little different - I rather liked the sweeping curve of the railway tracks here.

Tewkesbury Abbey interior

Although the Abbey was founded in 1087 by nobleman Robert FitzHamon, building of the present Abbey did not start until 1102. Built to house Benedictine monks, the Norman Abbey was near completion when consecrated in 1121.

Embellishments to the long nave roof and the apsidal chancel were made in the first half of the 14th century in the Decorated style. After the dissolution in 1540 most of the claustral buildings and the Lady Chapel were quarried for their materials but the Abbey Church was sold to the parishioners for £453 (worth around €440,000 today).

Changes made since then to the internal configuration have developed to reflect contemporary styles of devotion, currently of the Anglo-Catholic persuasion.

Blick vom Kollhoff-Tower.

Er wurde 1999 fertiggestellt und ist nach dem Architekten Hans Kollhoff benannt. Es ist ein 101 Meter hohes Gebäude mit 25 Etagen und einer Aussichtsplattform.

Located in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire on the border between England and Wales, the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail is a free woodland exhibition.

One of the large artworks is this creation of suspended plastic bottles, each with a small amount of colour at its base.

Walking off a nice lunch at Gloucester Docks, we passed the maintenance area, where there are usually a few boats being repaired. Yesterday, the dry docks were empty, awaiting new customers.

Happy Easter everyone.

Our woodland walk took us through the walled monastic garden of the Benedictine Prinknash Abbey (pronounced “Prinnish”, because we Brits can be weird with words sometimes).

The pear trees forming the arch are breaking out into blossom, and at their base, the tulips are a rainbow of bright colours.
