The tuff stone for the grotto was quarried from the Engen Loch on the nearby river Bolgenach.
The chapel is dedicated to Saint Timotheus as well as Saint Mavri, whose sacred bones are held in the chapel.

Church authorities claim, that Saint Timotheus was married to Saint Mavri. Fighting against idiolatry they were arrested and martyred.

Local tradition tells a different story, saying that Saint Mavri was born in a nearby village. When her parents arranged for her to marry, she refused saying she wanted to devote herself to God. The day before the wedding she jumped into the hot oven, where the wedding food was prepared, and while God saved her life, she was left with a blackened face. Then she left the villae and lived the remaining life in seclusion of the hills.

East of the chapel temple runs the holy water of Agia Mavri, which is considered miraculous. Believers make pilgrimages to this chapel in summer.

At that time, it was a small wayside chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

Construction of the chapel began in 1846 but, due to difficulties, was not completed until two years later. The interior was designed by craftsmen and artists from Oberstdorf. In 1848, the little church was consecrated as the Wendelins-Kapelle (Wendelin Chapel)

However, the present-day altar with its paintings dates from 1938. In choosing the colours, the artist took particular care to use the original colours of local flowers.

The sun was just starting to set and all was very quite. OI liked the light from this viewpoint with the daffodils too but a better photo of the church proper is shown in the PiP.

Sitting in isolated the woodland of Trevor Hall. The present building dates back to 1717 but the history of Trevor church goes back many centuries. In the 15th century. Bishop John Trevor II resided at Trevor Hall with his brother and used the chapel at Trevor as his private chapel. In consequence, Trevor Church was known at one time as ‘The Episcopal Chapel of Bishop Trevor.’ Since that time there has been always a very close connection between Trevor hall and the Church. In 1717, during the reign of George I, the present building was erected. It is still in use.

The second PiP gives us an idea of the adjacent hall.
The first stone of the current chapel was laid in August 1904. On 6 November of that year, the chapel was consecrated.

In 1933, the chapel underwent extensive renovation and expansion. The facades were given a (white) plaster coating and the windows were fitted with stained glass. A bequest from a resident of Hoog Soeren in 2000 made a complete renovation possible, resulting in the chapel in its current form.

On Sundays during the summer months, the chapel is used for short church services. It also hosts weddings and other gatherings.

The church was rebuilt and enlarged in the following centuries, but remained under the patronage of the monks of Saint-Etienne. It was not until the mid-18th century that the abbey came into the possession of the municipalities of Saint-Philbert-sur-Orne and Les Îles Bardel.

The monastery church became a parish church in 1906. In 1943, the entire complex, consisting of the church, the cemetery and the surrounding area, was listed as a historic monument.

</media:text>
