Das Schloss vor Husum – so genannt, weil es zu seiner Erbauungszeit vor der Stadtgrenze lag – befindet sich in Husum im Kreis Nordfriesland in Schleswig-Holstein. Es war ursprünglich eine Nebenresidenz des herzoglichen Hauses Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf und diente im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert als gelegentliche Residenz des dänischen Königshauses. Bereits während dieser Zeit nahm das nun „königliche Schloss“ die Amtsverwaltung auf, die sich nach 1864 fast auf das ganze Haus ausdehnte und hier bis ins 20. Jahrhundert verblieb.

Das Schloss vor Husum ist der einzige erhaltene Schlossbau an der schleswig-holsteinischen Westküste. Es dient heute als Schlossmuseum und als Kulturzentrum, ist der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich und kann besichtigt werden. de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schloss_vor_Husum

The Castle of Santa Maura is a fortress on the northeastern tip of the Greek island of Lefkada. The castle began as a small fortification in c. 1300 to control access to the island. The Ottoman Empire took possession in 1479.
The fortress was captured by the Republic of Venice in 1684 after a brief siege.

Just beyond the palace gateway (PiP) we come to the main features of this most wonderful place.
Here we have the grand entrance into the main forecourt and grounds of this 800 year Auckland Castle serving as the Bishops Palace.
You see the 1790’s symmetrical screen wall featuring decorative corner turrets, crenulations, and pointed arched gateways with iron gates.
See second PiP for a view through the fence.

The historic Auckland Castle gateway and clock tower was built around 1760 for Bishop Richard Trevor, serving as the grand ceremonial entrance to the former palace of the Prince Bishops of Durham. Features a distinct gothic-revival stone archway and a clock tower housing a remarkably ancient bell with an inscription that traces it back to between 1175 and 1200. This makes it one of the oldest bells in the world
