OK, this one is closer to a traditional sumi-e, ink brush, painting.

I've done a number of sumi-e of the Four Gentlemen (四君子): the plum (梅), the orchid (蘭), the bamboo (竹), and the chrysanthemum (菊). It's suggested that if you master and can capture those four images you have all the strokes necessary to paint any subject. No, of course I haven't mastered them but ...

After brushing out a trail to the slough I haven't used for 3 or 4 years, Loading the fiberglass canoe on the mule, driving there, launching the canoe, playing on the water for a while, we landed on the far side of the slough for some lunch and sketching.

Since I end up giving a lot of sketches away, especially while traveling, I start making them in a two hole loose leaf style.

If I decide to bind them after I get home, I usually follow the Japanese stab binding style.
