The Fatimakapelle (Fatima Chapel) was donated by an inhabitant from Hittisau. He promised to build a chapel if his son, who had been seriously injured, would recover. After 43 days in he was discharged in good health and the family began building the chapel in 1949. The tuff stone for the grotto was quarried from the Engen Loch on the nearby river Bolgenach.

In 1950, following its completion, the chapel was consecrated. The Fatimakapelle was renovated in 1986.

The chapel is named after the town of Fátima, the most important place of pilgrimage in Portugal and one of the best-known in the Roman Catholic Church. The chapel is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

Soon after their immigration to Kleinwalsertal the Walser - coming from the Swiss canton Wallis - started building a first place of worship in Mittelberg. A stone with the year 1302 on the outside wall of the choir should be considered as proof of the existence of a small sacral building. In 1390, a new chapel with altar and cemetery was inaugurated. In 1391 Mittelberg was raised to an independent parish. Until then, the place belonged to the parish of Fischen in Allgäu (Germany).

Over the years the church became too small and in 1460 the construction of the new church in Mittelberg was started. It was built in gothic style and consecrated in 1463 with three altars. Sankt Jodok (Saint Judoc) - who lived in the 7th century - was chosen as the patron saint of the church. Its current appearance became the church in 1693 by a seven meter extension and the construction of the sacristy and a gallery. An avalanche had invaded the nave that year, so the main entrance was walled in and two side doors were opened.

The slender tower of the church - with a height of 66 meters - is a landmark of the Kleinwalsertal.

The interior offers some amazing wall frescoes, dating back to the year of 1470. The restored late-Gothic murals give the parish church a special atmosphere; they once represented the so called "biblia pauperum": the Bible for believers ignorant of reading (PiP5).

Die höchste Passstraße in Korsika führt über den 1470 Meter hohen Col de Vergio. Bei meinem Besuch im März lag neben der freien Straße noch genug Schnee auf der Passhöhe. Hier erstrecken sich beidseitig des Scheitelpunktes größere Waldgebiete die zum Wandern und Radfahren einladen. Manche Wege werden mit Sperren gegen Autofahrer geschützt. Rechts ist die Statue des Christkönigs zu sehen, die seit 1984 auf dem Pass steht.

A first chapel in Baad was built in 1636. The consecration took place in 1663 in honor of St. Martin, the Virgin Mary and St. Wendelin. The little church was elevated to the status of a branch parish in 1711. The chapel was extended in 1738 and 1767, and demolished in 1851 due to the risk of avalanches.

The present Martins Kapelle (Martins Chapel) was built on a hill to the north of the village in 1851 and consecrated in 1855. Restoration work on the church was carried out in 1905 and from 1971 to 1972. Nowadays the small mountain chapel still towers above the village of Baad.

Die Alster ist ein 56 km langer Nebenfluss der Elbe. Sie entspringt auf dem Gebiet der Gemeinde Henstedt-Ulzburg im Ortsteil Henstedt-Rhen. Von dort verläuft der teils stark mäandrierende Fluss zunächst nach Norden und knickt wenige hundert Meter weiter flussabwärts in Richtung Osten ab. Danach wendet sich der Fluss schließlich nach Süden und fließt durch Hamburgs Innenstadt zur Elbe.

Barfuss im Schnee. Ich war auf der Alm 1.100m Höhe.
Einen Teil der Forstrasse sind wir mit dem Auto hochgefahren. Dann kam der Schnee und wir sind weiter zu Fuss aufgestiegen. Der gestrige Tag war am Mittag dann ca 22° Grad warm . An der Hütte zog die Wanderstiefel aus und lief durch den Schnee ;-))) Es war kalt, aber es war herrlich!
