Auf dem Dach des ehemaligen Karstadt-Sporthauses (eröffnet Nov. 1999) befand sich einst eine Rollschuhbahn.
Nach der Schließung im Okt. 2020 wurde das Gebäude nach längerem Leerstand von 2022 bis April 2025 als kreatives Zwischennutzungsprojekt namens Jupiter betrieben. Ende April 2025 war aber auch damit Schluss:

PS.: Das Saturn-Kaufhaus heißt jetzt Mediamarkt.

Feng Shang Princess is a hand‑crafted floating pagoda restaurant moored on Regent’s Canal at Cumberland Basin, close to Regent’s Park and London Zoo, and was built in the 1980s as one of London’s earliest Chinese boat eateries. Its striking red, three‑tiered silhouette, strung with lanterns, has turned it into a small local landmark, much photographed from the towpath and favoured by canal strollers. As a bit of trivia, guests reach the restaurant via a narrow gangplank from Prince Albert Road, and some report that, on quiet evenings, sounds from the nearby zoo carry across the water into the dining room.

Durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, de 1940 à 1944, la ville fut occupée par l'Allemagne . Rouen subit de lourds dégâts : environ 45 % de la ville fut détruite. En juin 1940, la zone située entre la cathédrale de Rouen et la Seine brûla pendant 48 heures, les Allemands ayant interdit l'accès aux pompiers.

This is my mum, my brother and me in front of the entrance to the Sierra Maestra residential complex in Havana, where we lived in the early 1980s. Our pride was the car in the foreground: a beautifully designed orange Škoda 110 R coupé, built in Czechoslovakia between 1970 and 1980. In Cuba, where the streets were dominated by gigantic, aging American cars from the 1940s and 1950s, this low, sporty silhouette looked wonderfully exotic and always attracted attention. For many people it was probably the closest thing to a Porsche they had ever seen driving past their front door. For us it was just the family car, quietly threading our everyday life into the larger history of that time and place. We eventually sold it in Havana – and I still sometimes wonder if it might somehow be surviving on the Cuban roads today.

When you notice this stone in the wall at Prästgatan and Kåkbrinken, you are looking at something older than Stockholm itself. This Viking Age rune stone, dating from the late eleventh century, still preserves its serpent motif and fragments of runic text. It was not carved for this house, but was probably moved here from its original location and built into the wall during the medieval period, reused simply as a convenient block of stone. Its presence here shows how a memorial from the Viking Age could lose its original purpose and become part of the fabric of the growing town.

Industrial Stockholm, Recast

Originally, this was a grain mill built in the 1890s for Holmberg & Möller, when Stockholm was expanding quickly and needed large modern facilities to handle food imports by sea. Grain arrived here by ship, was processed on site, and fed directly into the economy of a growing capital.

Now the old mill has a very different life. The main surviving building is the Elite Hotel Marina Tower, while other preserved parts of the former industrial complex have been converted into housing. The wider waterfront around it is now part of a residential district, with public quay space and ferry connections linking it back into everyday Stockholm.

Göteborg’s riverfront looks calm, but it is one of those places where Swedish urban history hides in plain sight: the red Eriksberg crane is not decoration but a survivor of the shipyard era that once defined the city’s global identity. The bridge and open water suggest space, yet this is really a corridor of movement—ships, workers, trade, ferries, and daily crossings compressed into one quiet view. What seems like empty foreground is actually the Göta älv, the artery that made Göteborg matter. The photo catches the city between functions: no longer purely industrial, not merely picturesque, but still shaped by labour, logistics, and memory.

..der ehemaligen Schilleroper ist noch vorhanden. Sie war im Jahr 1890 für den Circus Busch erbaut worden und wurde 1891 mit einer Galavorstellung eröffnet. Der Bau fasste insgesamt dreitausend Zuschauer - in Nebengebäuden befanden sich u. a. Artistenwohnungen, ein Requisitenfundus und Elefantenställe.
Ab 1904 wurde der frühere Zirkusbau nach Plänen des Architekten Ernst Michaelis zum Theater umgebaut und am 20. April 1905 mit Schillers Wilhelm Tell wiedereröffnet - daher die noch heute gebräuliche Bezeichnung.

Walking along the Regent’s Canal from Camden, the zoo lies on the left as the towpath reaches a striking mesh structure above the trees: the former Snowdon Aviary, now London Zoo’s “Monkey Valley”. Here the canal forms part of the zoo’s edge, with fences and enclosures dropping to the water so walkers and boat passengers can glimpse animals, while narrowboats between Camden and Little Venice often point out this landmark.

Designed in the early 1960s by Cedric Price with Frank Newby and Lord Snowdon, it opened in 1965 as Britain’s first walk‑through aviary and became a key work of London modernism. Now Grade II* listed, it used tensioned cables and light mesh to create an unusually open space where visitors moved on raised walkways while birds flew freely around them, a strikingly immersive idea for its time.
