Sie nutzen ihre hervorragenden Augen, um Beute (wie kleine Insekten) optisch wahrzunehmen, schleichen sich an und überwältigen sie mit einem gezielten Sprung.Vor dem Sprung sichern sie sich meist mit einem feinen Faden („Sicherheitsseil“) ab, falls sie ihr Ziel verfehlen.

These hoverflies feed on nectar and pollen, making them important pollinators for many flowering plants; like many hoverflies, they can hover precisely in mid-air and change direction in a flash :))

Également connue sous le nom de syrphe à taches cunéiformes, c'est une espèce de syrphe très répandue. Malgré son nom et son apparence, ce n'est ni une abeille ni une guêpe, mais une mouche. Cette apparence la protège des prédateurs, bien qu'elle soit totalement inoffensive et dépourvue de dard. Elle ne possède que deux ailes (les abeilles en ont quatre) et de grands yeux ! Les syrphes à taches cunéiformes se nourrissent de nectar et de pollen et sont donc d'importants pollinisateurs pour de nombreuses plantes à fleurs. Comme beaucoup de syrphes, elles peuvent faire du surplace avec une précision remarquable et changer de direction en un éclair. :))

Der Kleine Panda (Ailurus fulgens) oder Rote Panda lebt im östlichen Himalaya und im Südwesten Chinas. Er ist ein geschickter Kletterer und ernährt sich hauptsächlich von Bambus. Er ist etwa 120 cm lang und 4 bis 6 kg schwer. Mit dem Großen Panda ist die Art nicht näher verwandt.

My parents' lifelong friends taken in the late 1970s, against a wild selection of patterns - stripes, plaid, flowers, tortoiseshell fur, and (close to) paisley on the curtains!
Bill died the earliest of the four, but Jackie, my mother, and father all made it into their late nineties - strong personalities to the end!

I have no idea if what I imagine is true - but it looks like someone has given (or sewn) an outfit for this little kid, had his picture taken by a traveling photographer, and then pencilled on the back "Foster Mother" in order to send a copy to a former foster mother he had.
I hope he had a happy life.

I actually was in Montgomery Center, Vermont today (about 70 miles north of my home and 2 miles east of Montgomery), to view a moving and beautiful Palestinian Art Show.
