une nuit de kaolin

Dans la nuit de ma ville
vont des murs qui tremblent
vers d'obscures ruelles
aux lumières fragiles,
les pavés qui ressemblent
à des rails charbons
font des tâches de sel
aux lueurs d'un lampion.

Ça ne sent pas la mer
il n'y a pas de vent
juste un peu la rivière
qui file vers le nord,
et les ombres du temps
dans un long corridor
vont se noyer au pont
entre deux réverbères.

Dans la nuit de ma ville
il n'y a pas de chanson
ni d'amour, ni de haine
mais la pluie des saisons,
quelques passants tranquilles
qui remontent les quais
voient de la porcelaine
dans les nuages épais.

La vieille cathédrale
aux murailles dressées
offre un nid vespéral
aux amants délaissés,
les fontaines nocturnes
de ses jardins secrets
abreuvent des pâles lunes
dans d'étranges reflets.

Dans la nuit de ma ville
on attend le matin
en devinant les fils
d'un trolley de hasard ,
puis on va vers la gare
pour regarder les trains
qui emmènent au loin
Valadon et Renoir .

The Horse Shoe Bar in Drury Street, Glasgow has the longest continuous bar in Britain, and it is widely described as the longest in Europe as well. The official measurement is 104 feet and 3 inches, a figure confirmed by both the pub itself and multiple independent sources.

The bar was key in the formation of Glasgow band Travis. Drummer Neil Primrose was working behind the bar when he told his friend Fran Healy about a band called Glass Onion, who played in the bar. Healy saw them at the bar and subsequently joined them. They used the pub as a rehearsal space early in their career and a number of their gold discs are displayed in the pub.
