Replacing the Cape St George lighthouse , this one (at right) was erected in 1898 and first lit on 1 May 1899. It operated until January 1994, when it was replaced by the new solar powered LED light at left (and the site was de-manned - lighthouse keeper's house at right). The old light apparently is still lit for an annual Lighthouse Weekend in August of most years. As can be seen in the background, this is clearly at the entrance to Jervis Bay. View large. In Stuttgart's zoological-botanical garden (Wilhelma) the paeonias were in full bloom just after Easter, 3 weeks earlier than last year. I managed to catch the last few in early May.
In the main photo a yellow hybrid, in the PiPs the pink ones which go back to the mid 19th century when Wilhelma was created as a private pleasure garden for King Wilhelm I.

Oldtimertreffen Altes Blech in Lohfeld. Hier gab es alte Autos, Motorräder, Traktoren und Nutzfahrzeuge zu sehen. Vom Einzylinder bis V12 war alles dabei. Es knatterte, dröhnte, rauchte und es roch nach verbranntem Benzin.

Dieses Expertenpaar interessiert sich offenbar für den alten Lanz Bulldog (rechts) und den argentinischen Linzenznachbau Pampa (links und PiP). Vielleicht hatten sie selbst einmal ein Exemplar.
Beide Traktoren dürften etwa Baujahr 1950 sein. Der Traktor hat einen Einzylinder-Zweitakt-Vielstoffmotor mit 10,3 Liter Hubraum und 55 PS bei 750 U/min. Da braucht man keinen Drehzahlmesser, denn man kann jede Explosion mitzählen. Der Fahrer wird dabei ordentlich durchgeschüttelt. Der Motor kann auch mit Schweröl, Pflanzenöl und Tran betrieben werden, und er kann sogar rückwärts laufen. Das charakteristische Pochen des Motors hört man schon aus einem Kilometer Entfernung.
