"The Church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés is a Catholic parish church located in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés quarter of Paris. It was originally the church of a Benedictine abbey founded in 558 by Childebert I, the son of Clovis, King of the Franks. The abbey was destroyed by the Vikings, rebuilt, and renamed in the 8th century for Saint Germain, a 6th century bishop. It was rebuilt with elements in the new Gothic style in the 11th century, and was given the earliest flying buttresses in the Ile de France in the 12th century. It is considered the oldest existing church in Paris"

It was badly damaged during the French Revolution and recreated/reimagined in the mid-1800's as a medieval church. The interior is strikingly beautiful and the organ is awe inspiring.

We had the great experience of attending a concert by father and son Hawaiian musicians, Dennis and David Kamakahi. This concert took place in 2007 during the day at a shopping mall on Maui. Musicians and dancers often perform in these venues.

We were able to get some good photos of the event.

Sadly, Dennis Kamakahi passed away in 2014.

Symbole musical de la Provence, le galoubet-tambourin incarne aujourd’hui une tradition qui perdure depuis plusieurs siècles, destinée à faire danser les gens et à célébrer différents événements.
Instrument double associant percussion et vent, le galoubet-tambourin est constitué d’une flûte à bec à trois trous et d’un tambourin en bois massif d’environ 30 centimètres de diamètre et 80 centimètres de haut. Il a notamment été popularisé par le poète et philologue provençal Frédéric Mistral, Prix Nobel de littérature en 1904, qui incitait les tambourinaires à jouer lors des bals provençaux pour que leurs instruments ne disparaissent pas au profit des fanfares du début du XXe siècle.
Cette classe s'est produite lors de la fête de la musique à Ollioules.

We took the broad gauge "historic train" of 5 wooden-bodied coaches from Regua. It was headed by CP Class 1400 Bo-Bo English Electric/ SRFM diesel-electric CP 1424.

A small band played local folk music on the train and on the platform here in Tua.
