Saint-Malo ist der bedeutendste Hafen an der bretonischen Nordküste. Aufgrund des originalgetreu wiederaufgebauten historischen Stadtkerns sowie der Festungsanlagen ist die Stadt einer der meistbesuchten Orte Frankreichs.
In der Bucht von Saint-Malo gibt es einen der grössten Gezeitenunterschiede Europas. Die Differenz zwischen Niedrigwasser und Hochwasser kann bis zu 12 m betragen! (Siehe auch PiP)

Die Môle des Noires, dieser Vorbau ins Meer wurde zwischen 1837 und 1842 ausgehend von der Bastion Saint-Philippe aus Granit aus Chausey errichtet. Ihre ursprüngliche Länge von 275 m wurde zwischen 1932 und 1933 fast verdoppelt und erreichte 520 m. Das Bauwerk wurde bei der Ankunft der Amerikaner in Saint-Malo im August 1944 von den Deutschen auf einer Länge von 200 m gesprengt, bevor es nach dem Krieg wieder aufgebaut wurde.
Die Mole „Môle des Noires“ wird nach den Felsen benannt, auf denen sie errichtet wurde, deren Name sich angeblich auf ihre dunkle Farbe zurückführt.

Gilt als Wahrzeichen der Côte Sauvage.
An der wilden Küste von Quiberon, in Saint-Pierre-Quiberon, hat die Meereserosion einen natürlichen Bogen in die Klippe geformt, der unter dem Namen „roche percée“ bekannt ist. Dieses zum Atlantik hin offene Granitportal gehört zu den meistfotografierten Orten der Südbretagne. Durch Stürme geschwächt, steht der Bogen heute unter Beobachtung: Der direkte Zugang von der Klippe aus ist gesperrt, aber man kann ihn vom Küstenweg aus betrachten oder sich ihm bei Ebbe über den Strand nähern. Der Ort ist ganzjährig frei zugänglich.

Siehe auch: HFF von der ASSE Speziell zu diesem Hohlraum hier im Bild, einer Bohrnische, ist folgendes zu sagen: Durch fortwährende und sich beschleuningende Verschiebungen im Deckgebirge und im Salzstock wurden einige Risse aufgetan, die nun salzhaltiges Wasser, kurz Lösung genannt, in das Bergwerk mit den atomaren Abfällen eindringen lassen. Diese wurden mit einer in das Steinsalz eingebrachten Folie abgefangen und in Behälter geleitet, von denen diese nichtradioaktive Lösung dann nach oben gepumpt wird und an die Chemieindustrie geht. Vor einiger Zeit versiegte dieser Zutritt und die Lösung suchte sich einen anderen Weg, und zwar durch die Abfälle die darunter lagern, etwa in 500m Tiefe. Dort reicherten sie sich mit dem radioaktiven Isotop 137Cs an und kamen auf der 725m Sohle wieder zum Vorschein. Mit Georadar untersuchte man die versiegte Stelle und fand heraus, dass die Folie durch Gebirgsbewegungen völlig deformiert war und die Lösung von der Auffangstelle weg leitete. Durch einen geschickt angelegten Bohrfächer und neue Folien wurde das Problem behoben und man fängt die Lösung wieder oberhalb der Abfälle ab. Die 725m Sohle wird derzeit saniert und ausgekoffert, das 137Cs - haltige Salz und die kontaminierte Lösung werden derzeit an anderer Stelle in der Grube mit in den Sorelbeton eingebaut, der die Grube stabilisieren soll. Das ist unproblematisch, da das 137Cs eine Halbwertszeit von 30,2 Jahren hat. Unsere kurze Aufenthaltsdauer hier hat zu keiner messbaren Belastung geführt.

We were on the road, so I did not contribute for a couple of Saturdays. We saw many wonderful landscapes, but none as unique as this place along Highway 3 near Oysoyoos, British Columbia, Canada. It is on indigenous land and is sacred to the Syilx Okanogan Nation.

Two weeks earlier, it just looked like a pond.

Pier "Crash Landing on You"

Happy Fence Friday !

Die südkoreanische Erfolgsserie "Crash Landing on You" wurde im Jahr 2019 gedreht. Die Schlussszene spielte an diesem kleinen Pier im Dorf Iseltwald am Brienzersee, bei der Ri Jeong-hyeok Klavier spielt und Yoon Se-ri von einem Ausflugsboot aus zuhört.
Die Szene hatte dermassen Erfolg, dass dieser Pier zum Hot Spot von Influencern, Instagramern und sonstigen Fotofreaks aus der ganzen Welt wurde. Dabei wurde das Dorf mit Reisebussen von südkoreanischen Touristen so überflutet, dass Regulierungsmassnahmen zum Pier getroffen werden mussten; z.B. mit einem Drehkreuz (hier im Bild).
Inzwischen hat sich der Andrang zur Erleichterung der ansässigen Bevölkerung wieder etwas gelegt. Hier ein sürdkoreanisches Hochzeitspaar, das sich auf dem Pier das Ja-Wort gibt.

Stuart Sutcliffe, der fünfte Beatle.

Der Platz erinnert an die Bedeutung Hamburgs in der Geschichte der Beatles. Hier wurde der Grundstein zu ihrer Weltkarriere gelegt. Der Entwurf des Platzes mit den 5 Plastiken stammt von den Architekten Dohse & Stich und die Kosten des Projektes betrugen über 500'000 Euro, die zu gleichen Teilen durch Spenden, Sponsoren und die Stadt Hamburg aufgebracht wurden.
Initiator des Projektes war der Hamburger Radiosender Oldie 95.

Beim Beatles-Denkmal in Hamburg steht eine Figur etwas abseits und wird kaum beachtet: Die Metallplastik von Stuart Sutcliffe. Er (und Pete Best) werden auch etwa als fünfter Beatles bezeichnet.
Sutcliffe war kurzzeitig Bassist der Band The Silver Beetles, bzw. der Beatles und war auch als Maler sehr talentiert.
Am 10. April 1962 starb Sutcliffe in Hamburg im Krankenwagen auf dem Weg ins Krankenhaus an einer Hirnblutung
