Wildfire smoke transformed the rising sun into a muted disc suspended behind a dense atmospheric veil. Its usual brilliance was subdued, filtered through layers of drifting particulate matter that softened the horizon and stained the morning light with tones of amber, rust, and ash.

This photo captures a moment of unsettling beauty. The sun remains visible, yet distant and diminished, its radiance constrained by smoke carried far from the fires that produced it. What first appears serene is also evidence of disruption: a sunrise reshaped by wildfire, distance, wind, and a changing climate.

"This is my skiff decorated for the regatta 4th July celebrations" is the description written on the other side of this photo.

This is divided-back real photo postcard with no address, date, stamp box, or postmark on the verso. The message written on the back of the card, however, includes some questions about events leading up to World War I, so it's likely that the photo dates to 1914, the year the war began (see Ultimatum of July 23, 1914, for background information).
This is the message written across the back of the card (I made it easier to read by creating paragraphs, but the text is the same):

In January this year, however, this scene would have been considerably different as violent storms reshaped the coastline and a large sandbar appeared restricting harbour access. Work began quickly to remove the sand which was subsequently used to replenish sand on the East beach.

West Bay, once named Bridport Harbour is a harbour and small resort situated at the mouth of the river Brit and is known as the Golden Gateway to the Jurassic Coast.
Many people will recognise the beaches and cliffs from the tv series Broadchurch.
It was also the setting for the series Harbour Lights.

I have added a song called 'Fact-Fiction by Mads Langer as a nod to the real life issues of this working harbour alongside the 'fiction' of the programmes set here.

The Patsy is one of a number of narrowboats for hire by Black Prince Holidays providing holiday accommodation for those who would like to follow their dreams and the canal network for a scenic, peaceful and relaxing breakaway from the stresses of everyday life.

The Forth and Clyde canal opened in 1790, is 35 miles long running between the Firth of Forth and the Firth of Clyde

The Union Canal , opened in 1822, is connected to the Forth and Clyde Canal via the Falkirk Wheel, a rotating boat lift which is a wonderful feat of engineering and is the pride of Scottish Canals.

So enjoy your holiday on the well equipped Patsy, whether you want to visit Glasgow or Edinburgh stopping at any the points of interest on the way. You can be sure of a magical holiday.

I could not pass the opportunity to then use a song with magic in the title, and the holiday company is 'Black Prince' so with Patsy being a woman's name 'Black Magic Woman' jumped out at me.

I have therefore added a version of 'Black Magic Woman' by Eric Clapton
