Pip1-2: Nahaufnahmen des Käfers

I also just discovered this beetle for the first time; it's about 5.5 to 8.5 mm long and can be seen from May to September. It prefers deciduous and mixed forests. The head is exceptionally broad and sharply defined against the rest of the body. It's generally black, but due to the close-lying, fine hairs, it often appears grayish-brown with a light spotted pattern. In spiny beetles, the end of the abdomen is elongated to a point, but in this species, it's rather short compared to related species and slightly blunt at the rear. Its body shape is wedge-shaped or humped. They are very quick and agile crawlers :))
Pip1-2: Close-up photos of the beetle

Pip1-5: Nahaufnahmen der Blüte

It has pure white, funnel-shaped flowers up to 6 cm across. It's a climbing plant (vine) that twines clockwise around fences, bushes, and other plants – it can easily climb 2-3 meters high. The leaves are arrow-shaped to heart-shaped and a deep green. The flowers open in the morning and close in rain or darkness – however, on bright moonlit nights they sometimes remain open, attracting moths!
Pip1-5: Close-up photos of the flower

The word pleso means a mountain glacial lake, so the name refers to the lakes of the Roháče area. They are special because the lakes are arranged in a dramatic stepped formation, one above another, which gives the place a very distinctive alpine character. For visitors, the appeal is not just the scenery but also the sense of remoteness, clear air, and classic high-mountain atmosphere that makes the area one of the most admired hikes in Slovakia.
