Persepolis (Old Persian: Pārśa,[2] New Persian: Takht-e Jamshid or Pārseh), literally meaning "city of Persians",[3] was the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire (ca. 550–330 BC).
The earliest remains of Persepolis date from around 515 BC.
It exemplifies the Achaemenid style of architecture. UNESCO declared the citadel of Persepolis a World Heritage Site in 1979.[4]
The Gate of all Nations, referring to subjects of the empire, consisted of a grand hall that was a square of approximately 25 metres (82 ft) in length, with four columns and its entrance on the Western Wall.
A pair of Lamassus, bulls with the heads of bearded men, stand by the western threshold. Another pair, with wings and a Persian head (Gopät-Shäh), stands by the eastern entrance, to reflect the Empire’s power.

In art, lamassus were depicted as hybrids, either winged bulls or lions with the head of a human male. The motif of a winged animal with a human head is common to the Near East, first recorded in Ebla around 3000 BCE.
Typically placed lamassu is at the openings of cities and palaces, so that everyone who entered would see it. From the front it appears to be standing and from the side walking. This was intentionally done to make it seem powerful.

La maison d'Adam, également appelée maison d'Adam et Ève ou de l'Arbre-de-Vie, est une maison à colombages située au cœur de la ville d'Angers, au croisement de la rue Montault et de la place Sainte-Croix, juste derrière la cathédrale. C'est un des témoignages architecturaux du patrimoine médiéval existant encore de nos jours, puisqu'elle fut construite vers 1491. Elle accueille aujourd'hui la Maison des artisans d'Angers . Cette maison du patrimoine de la ville vient d'être restaurée et fait découvrir aux passants ses belles couleurs et ses belles sculptures . Sur la seconde note l'arbre de vie .

Modestes condoléances à New York, qui pleure l'un de ses auteurs majeurs, Paul Auster, décédé le 30 avril dernier. Enfant de Brooklyn, père d'un réalisme aussi personnel qu'humaniste.

The Damara belong to the most ancient peoples of Namibia. Their original culture was a mixture of archaic hunter-gatherer and herder cattle, goats and sheep. Due to their weak social structures, the Damara were unable to protect themselves from the aggressors during the colonization of Namibia. This is one of the reasons their culture is largely forgotten.
