Zur Zeit kann man sie mit etwas Glück entdecken, die kleinen Grünen Zipfelfalter, auch Brombeer-Zipfelfalter genannt. Ihr offizieller Artname ist Callophrys rubi. Man sieht sie deswegen so selten, weil ohre Oberseite braun gefärbt ist und die Unterseite smaragdgrün. Im Flug sind sie nur schwer zu erkennen und wenn sie sich ins Gras setzen, klappen sie die Flügel zusammen und zeigen die grüne Unterseite. Raffiniert! Die Aufnahme entstand in einem fräkischen Schutzgebiet.

Zur Zeit sieht man gelegentlich in Blüten des Löwenzahns den Trauer-Rosenkäfer (Oxythyrea funesta). Er ist ein Verwandter des Goldglänzenden Rosenkäfers (Cetonia aurata), siehe PiP1 und des Zottigen Rosenkäfers (Tropinota hirta), siehe PiP2.

Kaum fingernagelgroß ist der Kurzschwänzige Bläuling (Cupido argiades). Noch vor zwanzig Jahren galt er als sehr selten und im Bestand sehr stark gefährdet. Erst seit ein paar Jahren wird er häufiger und wird auch von mir gelegentlich gefunden. Vielleicht ist er ein "Gewinner" der Klimaveränderung? Im Bild zwei Exemplare, die an Tierkot Mineralsalze saugen. Den Kurzschwänzigen Bläuling erkennt man am winzigen "Schwänzchen" am Hinterflügel (s. Notiz 1) und an den zwei orangefarbenen Flecken auf der Unterseite der Hinterflügels (Notiz 2).

Barely the size of a fingernail is the Short-tailed Blue (Cupido argiades). Just twenty years ago, it was considered very rare and critically endangered. It has only become more common in the last few years, and I have even spotted it occasionally myself. Perhaps it is a ‘winner’ of climate change? The photo shows two specimens feeding on mineral salts from animal droppings. The Short-tailed Blue can be recognised by the tiny ‘tail’ on its hindwing (see note 1) and by the two orange spots on the underside of the hindwings (note 2).

It's therefore a beneficial part of the ecosystem. Despite its short elytra (wing covers), this beetle is fully capable of flight. Its large hindwings are intricately folded beneath the small, shiny elytra and can be unfolded with lightning speed when needed.

Il s'agit d'un insecte allongé et élancé, mesurant environ 7 à 10 mm de long. Sa coloration d'avertissement caractéristique est rouge et noire. On le trouve sur les berges des rivières et des lacs, ou dans les prairies humides. Agile et rapide, il chasse au sol ou sur les plantes. Prédateur, il se nourrit de petits insectes, d'acariens et de larves. Il joue donc un rôle bénéfique dans l'écosystème. Malgré ses élytres courts, ce coléoptère est parfaitement capable de voler. Ses grandes ailes postérieures sont finement repliées sous ses petits élytres brillants et peuvent se déployer à la vitesse de l'éclair en cas de besoin.

Im Bild ein hübscher Rapsweißling( Pieris napi) , auch Grünader-Weißling genannt, an einem Blütenstand des weißen Flieders. Zur Zeit kann man diesen Weißling immer wieder sehen. Er ist nicht selten und in fast ganz Europa verbreitet.

The photo shows a pretty small white (Pieris napi), also known as the green-veined white , on a white lilac inflorescence. At this time of year, this white butterfly can be seen quite frequently. It is not uncommon and is found throughout almost all of Europe.

Im Bild ein schöner Schmetterling aus der Gruppe der Weißlinge. Gemeinhin wird er als Senfweißling (Lepidea sinapis) benannt, was aber nicht ganz korrekt ist. Es könnte nämlich auch Lepidea juvernica oder Lepidea reali sein ("Artenkomplex"). Alle drei Arten sehen völlig gleich aus und können nur durch Genitaluntersuchung oder DNA-Analyse sicher bestimmt werden. Der Falter im Bild wurde in einem lichten Wald eines Schutzgebietes gefunden.

The photo shows a beautiful butterfly from the Pieridae family. It is commonly referred to as the wood white (Lepidea sinapis), but this is not entirely correct. It could also be Lepidea juvernica or Lepidea reali (a ‘species complex’). All three species look completely identical and can only be reliably distinguished by examining their genitalia or through DNA analysis. The butterfly in the photo was found in a sparse woodland within a nature reserve.

Zur Zeit kann man in Gebieten, wo die Knoblauchsrauke (Alliaria petiolata) verstärkt vorkommt, die Aurorafalter (Anthocharis cardamines) fliegen sehen. Beide Geschlechter sehen sich sehr ähnlich, das Männchen besitzt aber zusätzlich einen orange Fleck auf der Spitze des Vorderflügels. Im PiP1 ein Weibchen. Zum ersten Mal konnte ich die Paarung beobachten: gemeinsames Herumfliegen, gemeinsames Absitzen (s. PiP2) und dann die Vereinigung (s.Hauptbild): Das Männchen befindet sich links, das Weibchen rechts.

Another image I found reprocessing files in my archive. This is a close shot of a galsswing butterfly. It's not in its natural habitat, though, it's in a glasshouse in the botanic gardens in Copenhagen; taken on a trip a few years back.

I've always felt that butterflies are some of nature's prettiest creations, but these, with their transparent wings, are particularly special.
