Vintage Cars Leaving town, A small group of 8 oe 10 of these cars were on an Highland Rally,
These two had just refuelled and were heading for an overnight stop in Lochinver, Sutherland,Scotland.
another stop on the renowned North Coast 500 Route which covers the top of the country
Found in the archive from 2013

The Scotish Highlands must have proved a real test for cars of his vintage! HFF and a nice weekend

The East Coast end of the Caledonian Canal which is a 60-mile (96.5km) waterway in Scotland running from Inverness to Fort William through the Great Glen, featuring 22 miles of man-made canals and 38 miles of natural lochs (Ness, Oich, Lochy). Designed by Thomas Telford and opened in 1822, it features 29 locks—including the famous "Neptune's Staircase"—and 10 swing bridges,

Boats up to 45.72m (150ft) long, 10.67m (35ft) wide (beam), and with a 4.1m (13.5ft) draft can navigate the Caledonian Canal. The maximum mast height is 35m (115ft), but air draft is limited by bridges to around 27.4m (89.8ft).

Moine House is a ruined stone cottage in the remote Scottish Highlands of Sutherland, sitting on the vast blanket bog of A' Mhòine This area forms part of the Flow Country, one of Europe's largest peatlands.

The house was built in 1830 as a halfway refuge for travelers crossing the difficult moorland between Loch Eriboll/Loch Hope and the Kyle of Tongue. Before the road, traversing the bog was a major obstacle—impracticable for most except hardy locals, often taking a full day of toil. The first proper road across the 14-mile morass was constructed at the sole expense of the Marquess of Stafford (later Duke of Sutherland), with the house serving both as shelter for weary travelers caught in bad weather and as a modest family home. (Ben Loyal range as a backdrop)

The North sea in sunlight at St Abbs, Eyemouth, Scottish Borders,
Sections of the harbour and the volunteer lifeboat station on the right with the breakers and the difficult entrance to safe moorings on the left.

The bay in the image has 6 notable wrecks, plus a number of others which are unmarked or unrecorded!

A classic sea stack on the northeast coast of Caithness. In fact Duncansby Head is the most northeasterly point on the British mainland.

We enjoyed a fabulous Indian Summer up here in September while the rest of the UK was awash with rain.

Dunnet Bay is one of the most stunning and remote beaches in Scotland, located in Caithness on the far northern coast of the Scottish Highlands. It's a beautiful, sweeping arc of pale golden-white sand stretching over 2 miles (about 3 km), backed by extensive rolling sand dunes and machair (coastal grassland). This makes it a true gem along the North Coast 500 route — often described as one of Scotland's finest beaches.

he Kyle of Tongue Causeway is a 3.8 km (2.4 mile) long roadway that spans the shallow Kyle of Tongue sea loch on the north coast of Sutherland, in the Scottish Highlands. It forms a vital part of the A838 trunk road, connecting the villages of Tongue and Melness, and is a highlight on the North Coast 500 (NC500) scenic driving route.

Beautiful weather in beautiful Caithness.

The cottage is on the mainland but behind is the island of Stroma and lighthouse with the Orkney hills of Hoy in the beyond over Pentlandite Firth. Their apparent proximity is exaggerated by the telephoto lens.

A black and white version of the Dunnet Head lighthouse which has featured a few times on IP, this time captured in very strong but localised sun,
Orkney in the background only 6.75 miles away across the Pentland Firth, At 58 degrees north, geographically it is the most northerly point on mainland Britain, 2.35 miles further north than John O Groats.
