After decades of searching I have at last discovered the fabled entrance into the underworld. I feel an overwhelming urge to discover the secrets that lie in the abyss. In what seems like a lifetime ago, I overnighted in the Javan city of Semarang on a train journey across the island. It was very apparent that foreigners were a rare sight. Even the pedicab drivers did not offer to "find me good hotel".
