I & F Dunnell owned the Scarsdale Brewery during the 1850s, and built this, at 40 St Mary's Gate, Chesterfield, as the Scarsdale Vaults in 1854. The stone pediment of the Vaults building is lettered with their name and 'WHOLESALE & RETAIL WINE & SPIRITS MERCHANTS'. The brewery head office was next door and the brewery at the rear survived until it was taken over by Whitbread in 1958 and closed in 1959.

Ghost sign in white glazed brick at the former premises of Godfrey William Bonson (1858-1932), cabinet maker and upholsterer, removal and storage contractor, Moss Lane, Altrincham. The business also offered mechanical carpet beating services.

This well known Manchester Jewellers has been situated on Market Street at the corner of the Royal Exchange since 1897. Whilst you can no longer buy wedding rings by weight, the historic signs remain along with the mosaic in the doorway.

Sign: "Intercourse. Formerly 'Cross Keys.' From a Noted Old Tavern Stand. Founded 1754."

Taking a photo of the town sign for Intercourse is a popular activity for visitors on vacation in the Amish Country area of eastern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Intercourse and other seemingly suggestive local place names in the county, such as Blue Ball, Bird-in-Hand, Bareville, Fertility, and Paradise, also appear in photos and on postcards and other tourist souvenirs.

This Intercourse sign is an example of the "Keystone markers" that are still familiar sights along the roads throughout Pennsylvania and helped to reinforce its "Keystone State" nickname.

The Worcester Hop Market and Hotel were built in 1900 to the design of local architect A B Rowe. This terracotta panel on Sansome Street is over the arched entrance to the warehouses associated with the market.

Former Co-op shop at Ipswich. This building has been empty for some years and is due for demolition to be replaced by a new primary school. The project is currently stalled due to a 1960s mural at the rear of the building having been listed.

The town gasworks at Hayle was built in 1888 and the last relic is the former showrooms which still proudly advertises its former ownership in a mosaic over the door.

A rather special wrought iron sign is on the side of the former Victoria Jubilee Institute and public baths in Tunstall, building of which was started in 1889. The uses of the building included the Free Library and this was marked by the sign provided by local worthy and brick & tile manufacturer John Nash Peake in 1901. Sadly the building is now entirely derelict and up for sale at a knock-down price. Renovation of the Grade II listed structure would cost millions.

Premises built for the Robert Sinclair Tobacco Company on this corner site, to the right on Blenheim Street is Sinclair Building of 1913. On the left and facing onto Westgate Road is Blenheim House, built in 1919. The design was by architects Cackett & Burns Dick for use as a tobacco factory, warehouse and offices.

The firm was acquired by the Imperial Tobacco Company in 1930, of which company Sinclair was later chairman from 1947 to 1959 and president.

Ruins of the smelter complex at the abandoned town of Sasco, Arizona. Sasco was named for the Southern Arizona Smelting Company (SASCO) and processed copper ore for the nearby mines.

The Trevor Arms in Chorlton-Cum-Hardy advertises products of Groves & Whitnall. This Salford based brewery was acquired by Greenall Whitley & Co. Ltd in 1961 and brewing ceased in March 1972. It is a great shame that most of the fine terracotta on the frontage has been covered in green paint.

Ghost sign for the Ben Jonson Hotel at Marus Bridge on the outskirts of Wigan. The current pub is actually a little further along the road and, remarkably, seems to be still in business. Why a pub in the mining districts of Wigan should be named after a 16th/17th century playwright is a mystery.

Advertisement for beer on the window of the Miners Arms at Eyam. 'Anchor Beers' refers to the long lost Sheffield-based, Hope and Anchor Breweries which became part of Charrington United Breweries in 1962.

This grade II listed shop at 19 Fore Street, Liskeard retains its old frontage and ghost signage. The former jeweller and silversmith's shop has been the Liskeard Shoe Shop since 2012.
