Hemmelsdorfer See in der Nähe von "Timmendorfer Strand(Ostsee)"

Der Hemmelsdorfer See in Schleswig-Holstein liegt nördlich von Lübeck in direkter Nähe zur Ostsee im Bereich der Gemeinden Ratekau und Timmendorfer Strand und war früher eine Förde.

Um den See liegen die Ortschaften Hemmelsdorf, Offendorf, Kreuzkamp, Wilmsdorf, Warnsdorf, Häven und Niendorf, wo der Abfluss des Sees, die Aalbek, in die Lübecker Bucht mündet.

The ruins of the Cape St George lighthouse (now Heritage Listed). It seems that a number of errors led to it being built at the wrong place in 1860, with the result that ships continued to be wrecked on the nearby coast (23 during the operation of the light). It was replaced in 1899 by a new lighthouse at the entrance to Jervis Bay and was later demolished (being used as a Navy target) to prevent confusion with the new lighthouse in poor daytime weather. The PiP shows the coastline to the north and the distant entrance to Jervis Bay, where this should have been sited.

Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg produzierte BMW zunächst Motorräder und Flugmotoren. Das Automobilwerk Eisenach lag in Ostdeutschland und wurde enteignet. Das erste nach dem Krieg gebaute Auto von BMW war der BMW 501, der sogenannte Barockengel mit Sechszylindermotor. Dieses Fahrzeug war zu teuer und deshalb ein wirtschaftlicher Misserfolg.
Viele Leute wollten gerne mobil sein, hatten aber nicht das Geld für große Autos. Manche hatten auch nur den Führerschein Klasse IV für Motorräder. Damit durfte man aber vierrädrige Fahrzeuge bis 250 cm³ fahren.
BMW wollte in den Markt kleiner Autos einsteigen, war aber finanziell und zeitlich nicht in der Lage ein neues Fahrzeug zu entwickeln. In Italien hatte der Motorradhersteller Iso Rivolta 1954 (ein guter Jahrgang! ;-) ) die Iso Isetta vorgestellt. BMW vereinbarte Lizenzbau und brachte ein paar Verbesserungen in das Fahrzeug. Mit anfangs 250 cm³ und 12 PS wurden zwischen 1955 bis 1962 immerhin 161.728 Isettas verkauft.
Diese markante Knutschkugel mit Fronttür ist nach wie vor ein Hingucker.
