A family poses for a photo in a boat named Ruth. The still water captures a mirror-like reflection of the boat and its occupants.

This is a divided-back real photo postcard with a type of Azo stamp box (with four corner triangles pointing) that suggests that the photo may date to sometime between 1907 and 1918. The card is unused with no message, address, or postmark on the other side.

A Vintage Photos Theme Park photo for the topic of Fourth of July (flags, fireworks, patriotic, freedom, red-white-blue, barbeques, etc.).

"This is my skiff decorated for the regatta 4th July celebrations" is the description written on the other side of this photo.

This is divided-back real photo postcard with no address, date, stamp box, or postmark on the verso. The message written on the back of the card, however, includes some questions about events leading up to World War I, so it's likely that the photo dates to 1914, the year the war began (see Ultimatum of July 23, 1914, for background information).

Forgive me for not writing. It is just laziness on my part. My correspondence has got in an awful shape. I am sending this card to show I have not forgotten. I will get a letter written someday.

--What was the Kaiser scared of even more than fighting all Europe?
--What big convention was to be held in Vienna one week after war started?
--Did not Servia [Serbia] accede to all points except one or two, and wished to arbitrate?
--Why was the war rushed?

A Vintage Photos Theme Park photo for the monthly topic of real photo postcards.

This is a photo of two men seated in an early automobile decorated with flags for a Fourth of July parade or some other patriotic celebration.

The distinctive "Palace Garage" sign (behind the telephone pole on the left), the "Garage" sign (above the flag at the back of the car), and the design of the building all match a 1920 photo of the Palace Garage in Fremont, Ohio, that appeared as part of a "History Spotlight" feature in the Fremont News-Messenger (you may encounter a paywall if you try the link).

This is a divided-back real photo postcard with a Cyko stamp box ("Cyko - Place Postage Stamp Here") printed on the back (there's no name, address, message, or postmark). This stamp box design indicates a date between 1907 and the 1920s, which corresponds to the date of the photo published in the newspaper.

A driver is smoking a cigarette and standing at the door of his bus as if he's waiting for additional passengers to board. A blurry logo on the door may include the name of a bus company or an organization, but it's difficult to decipher any words or identify the design.

This is an undated snapshot of a flag-bedecked automobile with a driver who's dressed in a suit and top hat. Next to him in the front seat is Uncle Sam himself. Two other costumed passengers — they must be George and Martha Washington! — are riding in the back seat. Perhaps these are the celebrity guests in a Fourth of July parade.

A Vintage Photos Theme Park photo for the theme of perched precariously (on a chair, ladder, roof, tower, cliff, etc.).

Lettering on the side of the truck: "The Lititz Truck S[ervice]. Levi H. Y[erger]. Both Phones. No. 8."

Seven men and two kids pose with a truck overloaded with furniture and other household items. One fellow is perched atop the perilous pile, while another is standing precariously on the top step of a ladder at the back of the truck.

A Cyko stamp box ("Cyko - Place Postage Stamp Here") is printed on the back of this divided-back real photo postcard, which indicates that it may date to sometime between 1907 and the 1920s.

This is an undated photo of a woman posing with her family's automobile. It must have been a new car, since her whole family posed with it. I have three other photos showing the woman standing in front of the car, one with her husband, another with her son, and the third with her mother. The husband and the woman's mother also posed separately with the auto in two additional photos.

Handwritten caption: "Some Trouble!" License plate: "2352. Mass." (the year on the plate is illegible).

Looks like the photographer had some trouble with an unintended triple exposure. The photo was cut from an album and trimmed unevenly like this when I purchased it.

HWH - Cawfields Quarry loco "The Varney"

Cawfields Quarry loco at Town Foot, about where Potts Plant Hire is now [date of image - not known] The CQR was laid in 1905, and had several steam and IC locomotives.

The loco was built in 1902 by Kerr Stuart for work on the construction of the dam at Lake Vyrnwy in Wales, and is named after the reservoir. ["Sidar" class, 0-4-0 T, works no 748 of 1902] {only problem with that date is Lake Vyrnwy was built in the 1880s} Apparently the local name for her was "The Varney" ... suspected scrapped in the 1930s after developing problems with her firebox.

There is a very similar loco "Diana" at Threkeld Mining Museum in the Lake District.

A Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) trooper holds a cigarette in his right hand as he leans against a car to pose for a picture. His uniform includes a keystone-shaped PSP patch on his left shoulder, and he has a PSP campaign-style hat (worn with the strap in the front underneath the chin).

Beyond the trooper and car is a brick building with a Texaco Star gas pump. There's no date on the photo, and I haven't been able to determine where the photo may have been taken.

The driver in this snapshot is looking at the camera but the dog in the back seat is peering at something more interesting in the opposite direction. There's no date on the photograph, and I haven't been able to determine the make or model of the car.

Whitby 's No 2 lifeboat, the 'Jacob and Rachael Vallentine', being lifted by a steam crane, prior to being loaded onto a train at the LNER Poplar goods depot, UK. It has just been reconditioned and four horses were needed to haul it from the docks to where it was placed on the train. It is 34 feet long and with a beam of 8.5 feet.

A Vintage Photos Theme Park photo for the theme of famous - a person or place.

On June 19, 1945, General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force and future U.S. president, rode in a car with New York City Mayor Fiorello La Guardia ias part of a parade to celebrate the end of World War II. In this snapshot, Eisenhower is standing in the parade car with his back to the photographer, and La Guardia is seated behind him.

The building in the background, located at 680 Fifth Avenue, housed the tobacco and gift shop of Alfred Orlik on the first floor and -- according to the sign in the window -- "Bernard Weatherill, London, Civil & Sporting Tailors" on the second floor.
