It being a June today today, and having awakened this morning to a couple of cm of ice in the bird bath in the back yard, I went looking for photographs of other June days.

This was a June day in 1998, near Cape Spear, about ten km from home. I was using my (wonderful) Kodak Reflex camera, one of the few excellent 126 cameras ever made. And I had it loaded with Verichrome Pan film that had expired ten years previous to then.

That's an iceberg at left, and a sailing schooner near the right. On board the schooner were people probably watching for whales.

This is a mash-up of four adjacent negatives taken in mid-1998 in my Kodak Instamatic Reflex camera, a very nice slr made for 126 film. The film I used was ten-years-expired Verichrome Pan (having expired in December 1988).

I developed it at the time in T-Max liquid developer. And I just scanned it tonight. Looking at the four frames, I thought I could roughly pull them together in software. Which is what I did. Roughly. :)

I met Bob in the early or mid-1970s when we studied linguistics

together. We've been working colleagues ever since. I've no idea

what he was dropping by my office for in August 2001, when I took this

picture, but I see a computer disk in his hand.

This was on very expired b&w film (dated in the 1960s) in a 126

cartridge, shot in the Kodak Instamatic Reflex. I saw this batch of

negatives a couple of days ago and scanned them.

This was taken a year ago. It looks nothing like this now as we have
had little mild weather this March.

Of course it looked little like this last year, too, since this
picture is a result of shooting 25-year-old film in a 126 camera.
Somewhat distorted representation of reality. Kodacolor VR-G
(expired April 1989) in Yashican E-Z matic.

David and I have been good friends since 1957, the year each of us turned five.

This film, Kodak VR Gold 200, expired in November 1990. The camera is

my Instamatic 500, a reliable camera, and one of the few excellent

cameras made for 126 film. I shot the film as if it were rated at

about ISO 50.

I took this, the first shot on a roll of Kodak Gold VR 200 film which

expired in November 1990, in mid-June 2013. The differences in

quality of colours and general acuity between this film, and film of

the same brand but just one year older, is substantial. Kodak did

something between the production of 126 film slotted for expiry in

1989 and that slotted for expiry in late 1990, and that something is

still good. I'll post a few more of these images in the next day or

two.

These pictures were taken yesterday on Kodak VR-G 200 126 film in my

Kodak Instamatic 500. This roll (cartridge, if you will) expired in

March 1990. I think I probably over-exposed these shots, I mean

over-over-exposed since I shot them at 1/30 or 1/60 at f/3.5 or f/2.8.

There is a winter storm blowing this afternoon in mid-January. And I am dreaming of summertime.

I'm also dreaming of 126 film, thinking I need to take some. This was shot on some 1989-expired 126 film that I shot in late June 2012 in my Yashica EZ Matic. It was at Red Cliff, an abandoned WW2 gun emplacement and postWar radio listening site.

I still have a few rolls of 126 film that expired just over 25 years ago.

World 126 Film Day

On World 126 Film Day (January 26th past), I loaded my Kodak
Instamatic Reflex camera with a roll of Kodacolor VR-G film that had
expired in July 1988. I went in search of pictures. In terms of the
colour I got in the pictures, this was the best. Or the one I like
best.

B dropt in on Jan 26th to ask who I knew in some old pictures. In
return I asked her to pose for World 126 Film Day. I had my Kodak
Instamatic Reflex loaded with Kodacolor VR-G film that expired in July
1988. It was manufactured before she was born. The lighting in my office was
pretty uneven and, even in the best-lit parts, the rendered colour was
not very good. But filtering the picture through a pink screen (in
Paint Shop Pro) brought out some decent b&w tones.

Ah! Since it was brought up. . . . On that same roll of
expired-in-April-1989 Kodak VR-G 200 film, I have these three shots
(numbers 2 - 4 on the roll). The first shot on the roll was cut in
half by light exposure in the lab; it sits to the left of these but
actually represents a bit of a fourth that could have been at the
right. I didn't move it into the picture since these three are really
adjacent to one another on the film.

This ancient VR-G film doesn't hold its colours very well but what's
left can be transformed into a reasonable b&w image. This is just the
red channel. Very grainy. Poor resolution. But fun.

Shot in the Instamatic 500 which allows me to overexpose easily. This
was shot at about ISO 50.

Three shots from my neighbourhood graveyard. They were taken a couple
of days ago on a roll of Kodak VR-G 200 film in a 126 cartridge that
expired in April 1989. I shot it in my Instamatic 500 which allows me
full control over the exposure. I guessed at all the light levels but
I was guessing to give exposures about two stops over normal. That is,
I shot the film as if it were rated at ISO 50.
