TOZ on top of Great Slab, Bowfell, in the Lakedistrict.
The Great Slab on Bowfell is one of the most striking geological features in the Lake District. This massive, tilted sheet of bedrock sits on Bowfell's eastern face, famous for its dramatic scale and the crystal-clear spring gushing from the rock at its base.

Well, not a distant memory, it was only taken last December. It is the lane down the side and back of our holiday cottage in Hawkshead, Cumbria. Walking up from here would have taken us more or less directly to Tarn Hows but over some steep very wet sections that we preferred to avoid after weeks of torrential rain.

Weeks of torrential rain raises the water level here above the usual shore line, so making the seating here rather problematic. In spite of that, the views are still intriguing and rather satisfying.
In the distance we gat a glimpse of The Langdale Pikes one of the Lake District’s most iconic ranges.

As we return from the lakeside of Elterwater back towards the Skelwith Falls I see this scene through the rain along the river bank. The walkers we see here might look quite colourful and out for a pleasant summer’s walk but they are dressed in their best warm waterproofs, as are we.
