The shot was taken underneath a viaduct in Stroud, Gloucestershire, where the railway crosses the Stroudwater Canal and the river Frome.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I haven't seen this construction before, where there is an arch at the top and bottom of the structure. I'm sure there are load-bearing reasons for it. The arches make for a pleasing symmetry and perspective, I think.&lt;/div&gt;</description>

We hired a boat and went from nearly Oxford down to Hampton Court.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The photo does not quite do justice to what we saw. The train is an Intercity 125, meaning that it can run at 125 MPH. Our boat had just passed under the bridge at a maximum of 5 miles per hour. The bridge (the Maidenhead Bridge, I think) was designed and built for the railroad by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. It opened in 1839. At the same moment, in the sky (not visible) the Concorde SST was taking off from Heathrow Airport, heading for its cruising altitude flying faster than the speed of sound.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Quite the contrast!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Oh by the way, both the IC 125 and the SST are very loud!&lt;br /&gt;

After that, it was used for various railroad excursions, until a major storm caused most of the bridge to collapse into the valley below.&lt;br /&gt;

This is due to be replaced shortly (by 2015 and will cost almost £20million). &lt;br /&gt;

Currently (dec 2012) the  toll is 50p for cars, and this road route to Harlech is shorter than going via Maentwrog - unless you're in a 'bus or hgv.&lt;br /&gt;

Pont Briwet has stood since 1867 and was partially rebuilt in 1932 - it is grade II listed, and is very rare, but that has not stopped the decision to demolish it, the replacement will be concrete. I had been told that the old timber bridge - which is privately owned - would be retained as a path / cycleway. So much for CADW.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
After a tremendous amount of "fun and games" the replacement rail part was opened in September 2014 and a further tremendous amount of effort and delays the road part opened on 13th July 2015.&lt;br /&gt;
In my opinion, both sides of the new bridge are modern, concrete eyesores. The fact that the listed bridge was destroyed, instead of becoming a foot and cycle path, makes me very cross. My info is that the footpath use would Not have over-stressed the old bridge ...&lt;/div&gt;</description>
