The steam engine at Bursledon Brickworks was originally supplied in 1885 by John Woods & Co of Wigan for the Chandlers Ford works. The cylinder is 16" x 30" with slide valves, Pickering governor, four bar crosshead guides and a disc crank. It was moved to Bursledon in 1896-97 and remains in situ and is run regularly.

Charnwood Forest Brick Ltd is a component of Michelmersh Brick Holdings PLC. The Company produced approximately 3 million facing bricks and special shaped bricks per annum from its manufacturing base at Shepshed, near Loughborough. Hand made facing bricks are here being manufactured and placed on rail trollies to go to the dryer before firing.

Brick production ended here in 2023 and the works then concentrated on Hathern Terracotta wares & FabSpeed pre-fabricated brick components. The remaining business has now been sold to Shaws of Darwen and the works is to be closed.

Wheatly & Co Ltd. Springfield tileries, Trent Vale. Wheatly's was established before 1819 and was famous for its 'Triton' brand roofing tiles. In 1978 the company was taken over by Daniel Platt Ltd of Brownhills Tileries in Stoke, then in 1982 works was closed and demolished soon afterwards.

Midwinter snows at the Xingyang brickworks in Henan Province. This large Hoffman kiln was firing roofing tiles during the warmer months but was laid off during the winter.

Continuous kiln viewed from a train approaching Jinpeng on the Jitong Railway in the Mongolian Autonomous Region of China. The straw covers await the drying bricks during the summer burning season. The extremely low winter temperatures preclude brickmaking at that time.

Brick press at Bursledon brickworks museum. This machine remains in working order and is displayed with several pressed bricks made on site. This museum is a shining example of how to preserve and interpret an industrial business and a visit is highly recommended.

Bennett and Sayer was founded in 1875 by Richard Bennett who was active in a number of brick-making businesses, and William Sayer, an engineer. They traded as Engineers, Ironfounders and General Millwrights. An advertisement in Kelly's Directory of Derbyshire 1895 locates the head office at the Slack Lane Brickworks, Derby. Bennett & Sayer went into voluntary liquidation in 1990.

Buildings at the Rosemary Hill Tileries on Cemetery Road, Silverdale. The was a brickworks operating on this site from before 1841 when it was occupied by William Brough. John Nash Peake took on the yard in 1875 and then Walley and Alsop making tiles in 1921. From 1926 to 1975 it was T E Walley and then G H Downing Ltd until sold to Steetley brick in 1981. A year later Steetley closed the works and transferred production to Knutton Tileries nearby. The marl hole continued in use to supply other works until after 2006 when it became a landfill with significant subsequent problems for the locals due to smells.

Inside the DSF refractories works at Friden, Derbyshire. In this view can be seen two small gas-fired kilns and a large number of special firebrick shapes for industrial use. Many of these blocks are used in the glass industry.

The Furness Brick & Tile Co Ltd has been established for over 145 years and remains a family owned business. The works can manufacture a vast range of standard and bespoke bricks to order. The transverse-arch continuous kiln has twenty chambers and is coal-fired.

Glazed fireclay bath by Trotter, Haines & Corbett, Stourbridge. There can't be many of these left.
The works was started in 1850 at Brettell Lane, Brierley Hill adjacent to the later Harrison & Pearson works. Around the turn of the twentieth century the Harrison & Pearson acquired a controlling interest in Trotter, Haines & Corbett Ltd. In the early 1930s Trotter Haines & Corbett, Harris & Pearson, Samuel Evers & Sons, Canal Works and Amblecote Works were all absorbed into the E. J, J, Pearson Company, creating at that time the largest refractories group in the Country.

Pipeworks at Cheslyn Hay. At the time the site was being used as a depot for Hepworth West Midlands & Stoneware Ltd. In 1961 it is listed as Stella Tileries Ltd, (The Hepworth Group), Essington, near Wolverhampton. Vitrified Salt-glazed Pipes and Fittings, Glazed Conduits and Land Drain Pipes. Hepworths had bought the business in 1959. The works seems to have been established in 1935.
