I was very pleased to be quite by chance at the Holton le Moor crossing of the A46 by the line between Market Rasen and Barnetby to capture this RHTT train which reversed there. Arriving when the barriers were down, I cursed my luck when the extremely grimy 66194 leading the slightly less grimy 66015 crossed northbound and I initially assumed they had gone. However, I had the presence of mind to check and, lo and behold, they had stopped opposite the old station building to reverse, there being a crossover just south of the road crossing. A short, patient wait was rewarded by the switching on of the headlights for the southbound journey and, as the consist got underway, a cloud of spray from which I though it wise to step back.

The closure of Havant Level Crossing and attendant fencing was not, ultimately, going to deter me from trying to get decent pictures of DB Cargo Class 66 66165 in charge of an engineers train at Havant on the Saturday of Bank Holiday weekend. Lineside furniture notwithstanding, I am fairly happy with this portrait.

Major engineering works at Havant on 4 May 2019 at the beginning of a Bank Holiday weekend. An engineers train, headed by DB Cargo Class 66 66165 is accompanied by a G.O.S RRV conversion of a Doosan machine operated by contractors Quattro.

This is not exactly the shot I wanted but the level crossing, only metres from the locomotive, was heavily barricaded as New Lane was closed at the location. I am quite pleased with the action in the shot and a little disappointed that I was not aware at the time of the locomotive at the other end.

DB Cargo Class 66 66165 at the head of an engineers train just west of Havant Level Crossing. It was stationary on the up line in support of track replacement on the down.

I don't know whether this impulsive shot really works but those interested in the minutiae of Havant's history might wish to note that the background, beyond the locomotive, shows the ongoing demolition of a building on New Lane once a bit of a commercial landmark in the town as a location of enduring plant hire company, Marsh Plant.

DB Cargo Class 66 66165 with an engineers train on the up platform at Havant during Bank Holiday engineering work. Stationary at the time of this photograph, the train moved forward about 40 minutes later to a position just west of Havant Level Crossing as work continued to replace the down line.

I don't think I can remember a weekend when there were not engineering works and consequent rail replacement services on South Western Railway. Away from the remarkable variety of buses on the forecourt of Eastleigh station, DB Cargo Class 66 66104 stood at signal E87 with an engineers train on this blustery Saturday.
