We have been here before!

Despite the name on the bench this is Loughborough station! The Great Central Railway is a heritage line that runs to Leicester but before it was closed as a main line in 1966 by BR it used to run to London Marylebone via Rugby. The bench was saved for preservation when that station closed.

The steam locomotive behind is Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0ST Robert running as 68067.

And oh yes, just by coincidence, in the background Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 45212 is running round its train in Keighley station prior to working the 14.25 to Oxenhope Mince Pie Special...

Bulleid Pacific West Country 34027 Taw Valley crosses over from shed road 2 to road 1 prior to backing down to take water. Its stock waits in Platform 1 behind in Loughborough Central station.

With frost on the ground the cold morning air is filled with the engine's exhaust giving the scene a steamy atmosphere.

Wreathed in steam British Railways Standard 2 2-6-0 78018 waits in the platform at Leicester North while running round its train; the 19.30 diner.

For once I wasn't on the footplate, I was just a regular punter enjoying dinner on the train with my wife & took advantage of the stop to grab a shot of the engine.

The visiting steam locomotives for the upcoming 2026 GCR Winter Gala are all in Loughborough now.

Here British Railways Standard 9 2-10-0 92134 from the NYMR stands in platform 2 at Loughborough.

A visit to the Kent & East Sussex Railway, my first since 1986! Hunslet Austerity 0-6-0ST (Works 2857 of 1943) as WD75008 Swiftsure stands at the head of its train at Tenterden station the northern terminus of the K&SER.

Just noticed that the left-hand bench has SER in wrought iron on the end. The South Eastern Railway ceased to exist with the Grouping in 1923!

A misty morning on shed.

Looking forward from the tender of Stanier Mogul 5MT 2-6-0 13268. I was pulling coal down while the fire was burning through.

GWR 6990 Witherslack Hall shines in the line-up on road 3 and Loughborough box on the right awaits the arrival of the signalman.

British Railways Standard 9F 2-10-0 92240 in the bay by the footbridge at Sheffield Park station. It was saved from Woodham's scrapyard in 1978 but it was to be another 12 years before it steamed again, the first 9F to do so in preservation. After a period of active service 92240 was withdrawn some time ago. There is a current scheme known as "Awake the Giant" actively seeking donations for its restoration.
