This year, we have found a small patch of wild garlic in our garden, which I think probably originated in our next door neighbours garden. The flowers are really lovely!

A simple, but I hope elegant, still life image.

The bluebells are from my garden....they're not the native species but the Spanish variety, which are considered invasive. They're very pretty though.

I dug this dandelion plant out of my lawn. I was looking a bit battered having survived some heavy rain. Before it went in the compost bin, I decided to photograph it from a different perspective. Again, I balanced the plant on a fence post, so I could use the lawn as a background. I added a vignette to make it stand out a bit more.

Carpets of woodland snowdrops, with Chirk Castle just showing in the background. A beautiful sight, which lifts my spirits every year.

Unfortunately this was the only reasonable day for a visit this year. It has been cold, dreary, and wet, and even the snowdrops were splashed with mud. Nevertheless we visited with pleasure. It's possible to see other views if one clicks on the Keywords for "Chirk Castle".

Harebells are also commonly known as Scottish bluebells. They produce violet-blue, bell-shaped flowers in late summer and autumn, form late July to early November. They can often be found in dune slacks,coastal cliffs and heathland and moorland. The delicate, nodding bells of the harebell are one of the prettiest additions to our hedgerows, grasslands, hillsides, sand dunes and cliffs. I found a small clump of them today in our local churchyard.

Other common names include 'witches' thimbles' and 'fairy bells', and I really like those common names.

I'm away from the computer for a few daqys. Enjoy your cameras.

A Yarrow plant I found growing on a grass verge in my road, which I picked and brought indoors to photograph.

It's taken me a couple of hours and 5 tries to get this uploaded. It actually looks much better viewed large, but I've just tried and failed to do that :-(

Euphrasia officinalis), is also known as eyebright or eyewort. The white flowers are often tinged violet with red. or bronzy green foliage. It is a parasitic species similar to Yellow Rattle, and is used in wild flower meadows to control the spread of unwanted grass species. Eyebright prefers alkaline soils but can tolerate mildly acidic soil types. These flowers are tiny and difficult to find unless you know what you are looking for.
