"Der Bahnhof wurde 1842 von der Sächsisch-Bayerischen Eisenbahn-Compagnie in Betrieb genommen und galt bis zu seiner Schließung im Jahr 2001 als der älteste in Betrieb befindliche Kopfbahnhof Deutschlands (andere Quellen sprechen vom ältesten noch erhaltenen Kopfbahnhof der Welt). Die Gleisanlagen wurden im Rahmen der Bauarbeiten für den City-Tunnel Leipzig vollständig abgebrochen. An ihre Stelle trat eine unterirdische Station, die im Dezember 2013 in Betrieb genommen wurde.
Der stadtseitige Kopfbau („Portikus“) der früheren Bahnhofshalle steht als Denkmal der Verkehrsgeschichte unter staatlichem Schutz." (Wikipedia)

The Knotty Heritage train rests at Dilhorne, HL No.2 will shortly 'run round' the train and head off back to Caversall Road. NSRs 61, 127 and 23 - the accessible brake is at the rear.
Before that can happen, I'll need to shepherd myself and the other photographers back onto the platform.

Rails et traverses (historiquement en bois) sont les deux mamelles de la voie ferrée.
Ils semblent pourtant antinomiques, tant les chemins de traverses (sleepers) permettent de sortir des chemins tracés à l'avance.
Le train reste cela pour beaucoup d'entre nous : un moyen de transport sûr et direct, mais aussi un support convivial d'évasion et de fugue en dehors des sentiers battus...
Cette voie désaffectée symbolise à mes yeux autant une voie sans issue qu'un parcours ouvert, vers des horizons balisés par ceux qui nous ont précédés, mais colonisés par des espèces animales sur le retour, ouvert à l'exploration et la découverte, qu'on a voulu remplacer par de si désespérantes certitudes...

Pacific 231 ou Mouvement symphonique no 1 est une œuvre orchestrale d’Arthur Honegger créée le 8 mai 1923 à l'Opéra Garnier. Ce projet est issu de la musique d'accompagnement du film La Roue d'Abel Gance : elle évoque un parcours musical à bord de la célèbre locomotive à vapeur éponyme, la "Pacific 231" (d'où mon lien avec cette gare ferroviaire). Ce poème symphonique est considéré comme l'une des premières œuvres musicales dites urbanistes, c'est-à-dire inspirées par la révolution technologique du début du XXe siècle.

Pacific 231 or Symphonic Movement No. 1 is an orchestral work by Arthur Honegger premiered on May 8, 1923 at the Opéra Garnier. This project is based on the accompanying music of Abel Gance's movie The Wheel: it evokes a musical journey aboard the famous eponymous steam locomotive, the "Pacific 231" (hence my link with this railway station).
