The River Nith is a river in south-west Scotland. The Nith rises in the Carsphairn hills of East Ayrshire, more precisely between Prickeny Hill and Enoch Hill, 4.4 miles (7.1 km) east of Dalmellington. The statue of Robert Burns stands in the centre of Dumfries and was commissioned by the town council of Dumfries in 1877. The model was created by sculptor Amelia Paton Hill and carved by Italian craftsmen in Carrara. It was unveiled in 1882. The figure of Robert Burns is portrayed in a seated position with a faithful dog at his feet. It was created in Carrara marble, with a sandstone plinth. Quoted from Canmore.

Jean Armour (25 February 1765 – 26 March 1834), also known as the "Belle of Mauchline", was the wife of the poet Robert Burns. She inspired many of his poems and bore him nine children, three of whom survived into adulthood. Born in Mauchline, Ayrshire in 1765, Jean Armour was second oldest of the eleven children of stonemason James Armour (died 1798) and Mary Smith Armour. She met Robert Burns on a drying green in Mauchline around 1784 when she chased his dog away from her laundry. According to Armour's testimony in 1827, she met Burns again at a local dance. You can't really miss St Andrew's Parish Church, Moffat. Its huge red stone tower dominates the approach to the town along the A701 from the M74 and the south. Moat Brae is a Georgian townhouse designed by Walter Newall in Dumfries, Scotland. It was built in 1823 in the Greek revival style. J. M. Barrie, creator of Peter Pan, played in the house and garden as a child from the ages of 13-18 whilst at school at Dumfries Academy. Barrie was later presented with the Freedom of the Burgh of Dumfries in 1924 and in his speech said "When Shades of night began to fall certain young mathematicians shed their triangles and crept up trees and down walls in an odyssey which was long after to become the play of Peter Pan. For our escapades in a certain Dumfries garden, which is enchanted land to me, were certainly the genesis of that nefarious work" Quoted from Wikipedia.

The first bridge was built around 1270 by the Lady Devorgilla of Galloway, a deeply religious and very influential noblewoman who was the great niece of William the Lion and of Malcolm IV. Her son, John Balliol, became King of Scotland in 1292. She is best known for the foundation of Balliol College, Oxford, but in addition she built the Cistercian Sweetheart Abbey, near Dumfries, where in due course she was buried. Robert Burns Mausoleum stands at the eastern end of the churchyard of St Michael's Church, whose red spire dominates the south east side of Dumfries and makes finding the mausoleum relatively easy if you know what to look out for. Having found the churchyard you pass by the south side of the church and soon come into sight of the mausoleum. After a few goes, the driver managed to mount the pavement, then block the footpath completely. Like Laurel & Hardy they could barely open the doors, then struggled to take the contents around the van to gain access to the rear of the house they worked in. Still they did not reverse 3 metres to allow pedestrians, prams, disability scooters etc., as well as their selves to get past their mobile pavement blocker!
