We had to make a stop of 30 minutes in this border on motorway A1 - mandatory period of rest for the bus driver.
Sun was shining, allowing the final drying of my trousers (soaked with the rainfall at Pärnu beach), and to make some last shopping of Estonian souvenirs.

From this village of Mértola council you can see River Guadiana, as you look at east. It flows northeast but, downstream after the bend, it flows southeast. The village after the bend is Pomarão, where a bridge over River Chança allows traffic to Spain (Huelva Province, Andalousia). The white thin line is that bridge, on the mouth of River Chança on River Guadiana. It's where Guadiana becomes the border until its mouth in the Atlantic, succeeding its tributary Chança in that role.

Am Fuße des Kranzhorns gelegen und am weltberühmte Pilgerweg, dem Jakobsweg. Es handelt sich um eine Gedächtniskirche der Schiffsmeisterfamilie Hupfauf.

Malerisch unter dem Kranzhorn gelegen, befindet sich in Sichtweite der bayerisch-tirolerischen Grenze die Windshausener Hl. Kreuz-Kirche. In reizvoller landschaftlicher Lage, frei von bedrängender Bebauung ist sie ein kunst- und kulturhistorisch gleichermaßen beispielhaftes Zeugnis für die im Inntal einst zahlreich vorhandenen Klausenkirchen. Die große Dichte dieser von Einsiedlern betreuten Wallfahrtskirchen dürfte wesentlich in den Gefahren der einst bedeutenden Inn-Schiffahrt und der damit verbundenen Bitte um unbeschadetes Reisen begründet liegen.

Zahlreiche Votive und Tragstangen in Gestalt von Schiffen sind hierfür bildhafter Ausdruck.

Die Windshausener Klause ist eine Stiftung der Schifferfamilie Hupfauf aus Neubeuern. Im Gedenken an den 1674 verstorbenen Schiffmeister Wolfgang Hupfauf ließ dessen Witwe Anna Maria zunächst eine „Creuzsäule“ und ab 1677 die heutige Hl. Kreuz-Kirche mit Klause errichten.

An der Stelle, wo die Kapelle steht, stand im Jahre 1677 der Bürger, Weinwirt und Schiffsmeister Christoph Hupfauf von Neubeuern, und wartete ungeduldig und von Ängsten geplagt auf zwei große Plätten, die, schwer mit Kupfer beladen, von Tirol herkommend hier anlegen mußten.
Das Wasser des Inns aber ging gefährlich hoch, wilde Strudel wirbelten da und dort in der reißenden Strömung. Die Schiffe waren schon eine geraume Weile überfällig, und das Landen würde unter den gegebenen Umständen sehr schwierig werden.

Endlich kam der Schiffszug an, aber bei der Landung geriet er mit seiner wertvollen Fracht in höchste Bedrängnis. All die gefahrvolle, äußerste Anstrengungen erfordernde Arbeit der Schiffsknechte schien es nicht bewerkstelligen zu können, die Schiffe ans Ufer zu steuern, ohne daß dieselben dort zerschellen würden, denn immer wieder wurden sie von den unheimlichen Kräften der Wellen hochgeschaukelt und weitergetrieben.
In dieser großen Not, als er schon an der Rettung der Schiffe zweifelte, gelobte der Schiffsmeister Hupfauf, dem heiligen Kreuz zu Ehren ein Kirchlein an dieser Stelle zu erbauen, wenn alles doch noch ein gutes Ende nähme. Gleich darauf meisterten die Schiffsleute die Gefahren und brachten beide Schiffe ruhig an Land.

The Victoria Falls Bridge is a combined road and rail arch bridge across the Zambezi River on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is located approximately 350 m south of Victoria Falls. The bridge is the only rail link between Zambia and Zimbabwe, and one of three road links between this countries.
The bridge was built in 14 months in 1904-1905 on the initiative of the British politician and businessman Cecil Rhodes.
The bridge is a single-span steel arched structure ("parabolic arch"). The total length is 198 m, the span length is 156.5 m, the height is 128 m.

Diese 8 Segmente der ehemaligen Berlier Mauer stehen im Gewerbegebiet Dreilinden. Das Gewerbegebiet wurde auf dem ehemaligen, sehr großen Autobahn-Grenzübergang (A115) Dreilinden errichtet. Etwas abseits hat man diese von "Mauerspechten" gestalteten Elemente als Mahnmal aufgestellt. Heute sind sie kaum noch zu sehen, da sie von Spontanvegetation verdeckt werden.

Die Brücke der ehemaligen A115 über den Teltowkanal.
Auf der Brücke verlief einmal die Grenze zwischen DDR und Westberlin.
Auch heute liegt die Brücke in zwei Bundesländern: Brandenburg und Berlin.
Der brandenburger Teil steht unter Denkmalschutz!
Bis 1969 war auf der Brücke ein Grenzübergang, über den die Autobahnverbindung Westberlin-Westdeutschland abgewickelt wurde. Dann wurde die Autobahn bei Dreilinden verlegt und ein neuer großer Grenzübergang geschaffen.Seitdem ist hier kein Auto mehr gefahren.

Travelling along the Pamir highway at altitude in Tajikistan. The Panj River here forms the border with Afghanistan…here is a cross river view into the Wakhan Corridor …the bridge and fence are in Afghanistan. You can see them if you look at it large…a very long bridge.
There is quite a large Tajik military presence along this very very long border to prevent fanatical Taliban insurgency across this river. At times it is only 3 meters across in the higher regions.

Anlegesteg im kleinen Hafen von Altwarp (Landkreis Vorpommern-Greifswald). Der Ort liegt im äußersten Nordosten Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns, an der Seegrenze zur Republik Polen (der Grünstreifen im Hintergrund gehört schon zu Polen). Fischerei und Tourismus sind die Haupteinnahmequellen.

HFF or stone wall Friday. A small home at the end of a torturous 6 hour high altitude track in the Chipurson Valley, North Pakistan. At 4000 meters in altitude, surrounded by 6-7000m peaks, it marks the end of a road, right at the Wakhan Corridor of Afghanistan where Tajikistan and Pakistan almost meet. It is uninhabited except for high altitude summer pastures for yak and goats, and for a Shia Sufi shrine which is visited on pilgrimages by inhabitants of North Pakistan. Locals also sometimes walk over the very high mountain passes into Afghanistan or Tajikistan to meet relatives and family members in the largely Ismaili communities on the other sides of the border.
